HELP! Strange 2 second Engine beep, with car sut off

Happens maybe once every 10 times the car is turned off. There is a strange 1-2 second beep coming from the front of the engine on the drivers side, when the car is turned off, and repeats every couple of seconds. Sometimes lasts 10 minutes, sometimes goes all night. No idea what it is coming from. Have not heard it on my CLS 63 AMG only her E350. Took it to the dealer, and luck would have it, I could not get it to replicate, until I got home.

Any help would be appreciated. Just do not want to leave her stranded if it is a problem.

It soulds like your alarm system is messed up. It turns the engine off because of the immobilizer.

Be careful, you may get suggestions for a doctor's appointment.

Seriously, I've never noticed this on my E but sounds like something I've seen reported by a few owners. Did you try to search earlier posts? Are you sure it isn't AC system pressure being gradually released?

I was at the Neurologist this morning! Everything is the same. I really do not think it is the alarm or the AC. It is definately a beep, not a release of pressure, and the sound is too soft to be a horn or siren. It is coming from the area between the Driver front wheel and the engine. I have searched threads and there are others who have had the problem with other models. I talked to the dealer and they said to bring it in. I would like to have more info before I head down there.

I have somthing simular. Every once in a while i get a bep that last about 2 sec coming from somewhere in the front of the car, sounds like that dash but no lights come on or anything like that. It only happens about once a month so im not worrying about it. Wonder if its the same thing?

You are gonna love this.
Does the noise almost sound like an old dot matrix printer?
What you are hearing is the A/C compressor pressure equalizing.
Mercedes considers this a normal noise. Most everyone here will have heard it as it seems to not make the noise on all of these cars.
I have never heard it on my cars but we have had two come in for this noise.
To here it you have to be right near the car in a relatively quiet area.
I know the first one we heard drove us all crazy trying to find it. As it sounds electrical we were not homing in on the compressor.
Nothing to worry about however.

Sorry, I did not see your reply but you are dead on with the AC pressure.

Yep, it is really a distinctive sound, as as it sounds electrical in nature I can understand the concern you have of leaving your lady stranded.

How many people are gonna be in thier garages tonight listening for this noise?

Ya, it's happened to me at least 10 times. I will shut the car off. After about 5 - 7 seconds, there will be a long beep noise for about 3 - 5 seconds. Dealer couldn't replicate it. It usually happens right after the Airmatic starts to lower.

Im glad to hear that it's normal. Now I can tell my friends in the car when it happens what it is, and not just tell them its happened before and im not worrying about it. It makes me sound like an idiot not knowing why my car is making a random beep.

Lol, ya, my friends where like wtf when it first happened? They looked at me like, "should we run now since it's gonna blow up?"

Ya, I always have to do that too. My friends are all BMW junkies. They're like "oh, the performance of a BMW is like nothing else." My uncle, who is a BMW nut and has a 330CI coupe w/ dinan intake and chip, just got a 04 E320 for his wife (I recommended it as a good car). I asked him a couple of weeks ago when he was in town how it was. His response: "Man... nothing like a Mercedes." He was also very impressed with the power and handling of the car and was very surprised. I have to say, most people who don't and some that do own an MB, no nothing about the cars.

My friends either give me the BMW or Japanese car talk. I agree that you really dont know how nice a Benz is until you get in one and drive it around. My family has had a good deal of cars but the only company we stuck with was MB. Now every car we own is a MB exept for my brother who has a R32.

This makes sense, but.. is the ac comp going when temp is under 50 deg f? I noticed my e 500 doing it today after a got back from a 100 mile trip in about 15 deg weather.

Even though it is off topic, I couldn't resist. I own both a Beemer and Merc. They are correct about the BMW being a total drivers' car. There is also an amazing amount of passion within the BMW community (xoutpost). I feel that the reason for it being such a drivers' car is its too uncomfortable to drive, and the interior is too simple. Yes it is a magnificent machine, but I drive 100 miles a day and would much rather do this daily commute in my Mercedes. I still have amazing control but the feel of the materials and the smooth ride in the Merc make it a pleasure to make that commute. My brother in law is a cop. We test drove my Merc one night. He was driving and we had 4 total people in the car. He topped it out . He said it felt more planted at 150mph than his cruiser did at 90 . Yes he did tell his buddies not to be on that road for a few minutes. Great ride!!!!
