Changing Pads Help Needed

Hi guys, I received the warning light, is it necessary when changing the pads to change the rotors also? or just have them turned? what are the cost factors for changing Pads,Rotors,Sensors?

What pads do you guys use? Although I get a lot of brake dust from the stock and others swear by Akebonos, my concern is that other pads won't bite as the OEM, which I honestly Like and don't care about the brake dust.

Again, what are the cost factors? and where can I get these items wholesale? and do I have to disconnect the ABS? Thank yoga ll so kindly

Okay so when you get the warning light that is for the pad thickness sensor. Generally the rule is you should change your rotors every 3 or more pad changes or if they are showing signs of wear. Metal on metal will also do this if you wear your pads down to far you'll just eat into your rotors so that's something to be aware of. Also inspect them visually to see if there are any signs of cracking around the cross drilling if you have that.

I got all four pads and rotors from R1 Concepts Premium Rotors and StopTech Street Performance Pads for about $750 if I remember correctly. Another $400 in labor at an independent shop for redoing lines, brake fluid flush, and installation on all four corners as well as putting in the sensors (that come with the StopTech pads). The Akebonos from what I know have about the same to 10% less bite/stopping power than the OEM ones. The StopTech have way more bite and stopping power than stock. My only issue is after several extended mountain runs they squeaked for a while when warm but they've been fine after I used some brake dust cleaner at my last wash. Just call up R1 Concepts and they will order and process everything for you at basically wholesale prices.

Pads

OEM pads for the MB are just as good as the aftermarket pads.
In fact they are usually made by the same companies..like federal mogul, jurid, etc.
Once you go with the Big Brake Systems it gets tricky. There a a TON of combinations.

Centric pads are great. They have semi and ceramics all depends on your drivings habits.

$700 for parts is reasonable for an oem AMG setup. $400 for labor isn't.

To do a brake job is about 3 hours work and you can do it yourself if you have the tools.

The BBK brake job is a little more complicated but not tough. Since the fronts have 4 pads per caliper ..lining them up is tricky...take pics before during and after. Once you do one side the other will be a breeze.

E320 2004 model Silver sedan
i have a 2004 E320 and i use akebono brake pads. These are the BEST pads i have experienced. they give you no noise and brakes real quick and smooth. intact they bite better then O&M and last your much longer. i usually buy them from ebay or amazon. they do come with sensors and its recommended to replace the sensors.
for the SBC pump you have to disconnect the connector going to SBC pump Or you can disconnect your battery terminal or you close your doors and lock up your car and hide your keys when you doing your brake pads. you don't want anyone to unlock your car or open a door or the SBC pump will kick on and you can get hurt bad.

Do not need to change the rotors if they physically look ok. i have not changed mine and my car is a 2004. best way to find out if rotors are bad is if you feel the car vibrating when you break. if it doesn't then rotors are good.

I used Jurid pads and ran my rotors 130,000 miles and they were still above the min thickness specified by MB.
