What did you do to get it to this state?

I would definitely take it in to the dealer for service. I can't see you doing anything that could fix this problem, can you even use the eject button, to remove any CD's?

TompFIN 01-29-2010 01:30 PM

Fact I went to the engineering mode. I remember only the menu that read "flash", next I push "kill". Star does not connect to comand. Whether the software disc is the only possibility? Or, remove the comand's fuse?

DVD and navigation changer is working correctly,6 CD changer will not open. Original navigation DVD does not do anything. Now the car is a maintenance.

That wasn't a very smart move.

If you erased the flash memory I am sure it removed all of the preference files and other settings and I would imagine that the only way to restore it (if you are lucky) would be to insert a Software Update disc. The update disc it is looking for may not be the standard dealer one - it could be a Becker one used in manufacturing. All I could recommend you do is have your dealer insert the latest software update disc for the Euro COMAND and see what happens.

Repairman ordered a new software update CD, I do not know more manufacturers. I know that wasn't a very smart move. I pressed the wrong button and it went. Now I have a big dig on the forehead!

Were you able to get this resolved?

TompFIN 02-06-2010 03:07 PM

No. Have you any idea? "Tool" (software CD) did not help.

Did you see what the CD did, or did the MB dealer do all of the work?

Do you have the part number for the CD used?

That's why Becker/MB doesn't want us to know the key sequence so people can't brick it and make people work even harder to fix it.

Hope they get it fixed for you. Keep us updated.

Have you tried disconnecting it and then plugging it back in as a sort of hard reset. May get rid of the frozen screen at least. Normally I wouldn't suggest that, but what have you got to lose at this point?

wampa 02-07-2010 10:51 PM

Why not try putting an actual service update CD in the drive? I remember getting that exact screen, when I was updating one of my EURO COMANDs, and the service CD worked.

According to post #8, that was tried.

I wonder what part number for the service CD he used?

I doubt the car owner would get an honest answer from the workshop if they did not use the correct CD. If it was an average workshop, I assume they tried the navi processor service CD instead of the Comand service CD. :naughty:

CD number is 211589132200.

Disconnecting a fuse in a comand. The problem still continues.

Berlin is one of the comand factory there, said that the only alternative is a new comand.

TompFIN 02-09-2010 11:45 AM

The maintenance is really competent and knows almost everything mercedes. He also took a lot of common ground and not part of the longer helps. He thinks that when the fuse is removed lines of removal does not help.

This appears to be a good W211 Comand (head unit) service CD. MY 2007 update disc.

Unfortunately, I seem to remember reading in the past about someone doing something similar to your situation. You have essentially "bricked" your COMAND. Brick, as in that is all it is good for now. Replacement is the only fix.

This is exactly why MB doesn't advertise access to these menus. Next time , don't play with menus you don't understand :) I say that will all due respect and no ill will intended

Your message adds value if you know for sure that there is no way out of this state (we already gave the rant about careless use of engineering mode). I believe there are previous examples showing that the device can be restored by loading the appropriate SW from a service CD. Why does it not work in this case?

If the device was intended to be a brick, why wouldn't it state "I'm a brick" or something equally useful in the display instead of indicating SW download needed?

I guess it cannot be waiting for a US disc, or an older service CD?

Should Comand start software update immediately when the service CD is inserted in this stage? No buttons have to be pressed?

TompFIN, do you know how exactly did Comand respond when the service CD was inserted or did it not respond anything? I guess it at least allowed the service CD being inserted?

Mackhack 02-10-2010 01:47 PM

I think the CD would go in b/c the CD/DVD-ROM device takes media in by itself without the need of a "OS".

TompFIN 02-11-2010 12:41 PM

I do not know exactly what will happen to the submission of a CD. Will always return to the same state, after removal of the fuse or after CD installation.
