Here's an easy one MB xperts

Do all MB models require premium grade fuel (>89 octane) ? I am talking about models made this century.

Don't worry, Deutsch was just pointing out the obvious in the usual wacky MBWorld way, hence the multiple smilies. Hey, you'll get used to it; this was a good initiation.

MB has been a huge pioneer and builder of diesels with a longer history at it than any other manufacturer (1st passenger diesel in 1936, the 260D.)

People tend to forget how popular they once were here in the US (and still are in the ROW.)

I think the Manual and "requires Premium Fuel" on the Gas Tank (it does say that right? I might be confusing this with other Makes) should say it best.

WOW, This is like pulling teeth ...tough...I am not asking about MB Diesels, I know the history...I bought my first new Benz, a 1983 300D, so I got that part. My question doesn't have anything to do with my wife's current Benz, '05 CLK or my last Benz an '88 300 SEL. I know how to read the manual also to look at the gas cap. The question is simple....DO ALL MB MADE AFTER 1999 REQUIRE PREMIUM GRADE UNLEADED FUEL???? I am curious, that's all, I don't have an EPA bone to pick or a 'green' issue, I merely have a question...
sorry Mr. Moderator got his panties in a wad over his "cute" reply and my response. Dish it out but can't take it???

I currently own 4 MBs, all younger than 1999. Every single one of them, from my pedestrian C240, all the way to my mind warping SL600 state that you must use 91+ octane. Although, you can argue that these cars are equipped with knock sensors to combat lower octane fuel.

amdeutsch is a fine fellow. It's just that tone doesn't always come across on the interwebz.

Yes, they all require premium. All good, efficient engines do.

BTW, you can "argue" about knock sensors, but you'd be wrong. They are NOT installed to permit use of regular fuel and they don't.

Agreed, we're on the same side of the argument. Definitely not there to "permit" the use of lower octane fuel, but the knock sensor would save your *** if did use it, by mistake.

Question:

What happens if you run, let's say....Costco brand gas? Which is a mix of 90% gasoline and 10% ethanol? Any risks associated with that?
