I would stop about 5,000 miles short of ever using amazing to ever describe that car...unless it was something like...

It's amazing how ugly the new 5-series is.

The top pic dosen't look too bad...considering half the car is in the dark.

Way to fumble the ball, BMW.

I agree the pics look good.
However, notice how they used shading to disguise its rather odd lines. Thats what gives it that cheap/wierd/whatever-you-want-to-call-it image.

I still wouldnt buy it over the current E, and no, thats just not because of brand loyalty.

Here are more photos of the new "ugly" 5-series

http://www.germancarfans.com/photos....ID=3030331.001

You folks who's buying Mercedes.......GOOD CHOICE. The W211 is looking WAAAAYYYYY much better than the new 5-series.
What the hell is BMW thinking when they designed the car??? Well, at least, there's another reason to buy Mercedes......no doubt......

I think its ugly not "ugly" but oh well.

An E-Class looks better anyday. People at BMW (if any) should consider looks and performance not functionality and performance. They were so close to achieving "perfection," but now its "my god what did they do?"

For a while I thought that was a Japanese car on the outside...(maybe it is) And the inside is crazy German enginnering...

Watch me go up to the nearest BMW dealer when the new 5-Series comes out and just laugh!!!!!

Hmmm, pics are down for now (I'll leave them, maybe they'll come back up).

On a scale of 1 to 5 to 10 (hot to so-so to "fugly"), I'd give it a 4.

It's not too bad but I still think the W211 has a better balance of luxury and sport appeal.

I guess it looks better if you stare at the pictures for a long time. The car actually starts to look better. Dunno but the E-Class still wins :p

From side views it looks like its stodgy. Anyone can make cars look good in pictures if their done professionally. We have to wait and see till it actually comes out.

Let's see. Concave section just above the beltline from the Lincoln LS. Headlights from the Ford Contour. General shape of the forward half from Pontiac. Strange and very obvious cut lines for the hood and trunk break up the lines. HUGE gap at the bottom of the trunk lid, above the rear bumper. A weird concave section around the rear license plate. IMHO, not a success. But, I can only think of three really nicely styled BMWs since WWII - the 507, the 2800CS and the Z8. The rest are so-so at best.

I want to support Chris Bangle, since he’s a fellow Wisconsinite…however; it astounds me that he still has a job after the 7-Series. I thought that the Z4 was very good looking in person…but the 5-Series will end his career with BMW IMHO.

I signed the online petition to fire Bangle so its pretty clear where I stand on his styling...

The new "7" is an eyesore. Period. The forthcoming restyling of that car is the fastest restyling I can think of in recent history. The Z4 could have been so cool - if they would have taken some Z8 cues. Instead he stuck a yo-yo roundel on the side of the fender. Oh yeah... speaking of fender... how about that huge "Z" creased in the door/fender? All of those lines and angles in the front... fugly!

Having said that, I like the interior of the Z4...

Expanding the envelope is one thing...

The "face" of the new 5 looks like a pudgy asian man with bleached eyebrows and strangely flared nostrils.

How's that for painting a picture?
