It's probably in the tank like the earlier W211 models. It's accessible from under the driver's side rear seat. It's a real hassle to replace as I did mine (03 E320) a few years ago and it took about 2.5 hrs to complete. The fuel tanks in these cars have two sections and the filter (with a level sensor) is on one side and the fuel pump (with a level sensor) is on the other side. The tank has a connector tunnel where the wiring harness and fuel lines go from the filter to the pump. The main harness connects to the filter only. IIRC, the filter was $100+ and the tool to remove/re-torque the retainer rings was around $80. Although you can remove the retainer rings by hand, they really need to be re-torqued when replaced to make sure the gaskets properly seal. If you really feel like tackling this job, PM me with your email and I'll send you the factory procedure.

Regards,
paul...

Get the Service DVD, as you really shouldn't think you can change this without reference to official procedures. I imagine it will specify replacing (not reusing) the clamps--do you have the special tool required for CLIC clamps?

Have you verified the change interval in your maintenance booklet? Fuel filters on gasoline models are changed pretty infrequently.

...............
Step 8 of the procedure (AP47.20-P-0780TC) states: "Installation: Check fuel pressure line (4) and hose clamp for damage; replace if required.", so it sounds like he can reuse the clamp providing he doesn't break it while removing it. When I did my filter change, I scoped out the job and found out that I could use a pair of right-angled needle-nose pliers instead of buying the ridiculously priced CLIC pliers (especially when I was only going to use it once) -- it was bad enough spending $80 for the claw wrench.
