What's this for?

What are these slots for? Looks like it would hold coins, but I tried that and they fell out on the first hard turn.

yup coin holder. crappy design. A friend of mine has modded his with felt or something to make it functional.

Coin holder for European coins which are a bit bigger and thicker then US coins. I also believe that European highway tokens from the olden days would fit in there also. Pretty useless for us unless you tried to stick some silver dollars in there :)

Not to mention impossible to reach from driver's seat. My Porsche has the same thing in the center console, but it actually holds US quarters and you can easily access it.

The first generation C-Class used a similar coin holder mounted by the cup holder, except the coins inserted vertically. It was very useful since gravity held the coins in place (plus I think the coin slots were less wide so it held the coins more securely).

The W211 E-Class coin holder seems like it was put on as an after-thought. I only put quarters in there (for parking meters) and to hold the coins in place (and keep them from rattling against the plastic glove box door while I drive or falling out when I open the glove box door), I stuck a thick strip of heavy-duty felt on the glove box door so that it puts pressure on the coins and holds them in place when the glove box door is shut. Works like a charm! :y

i just use the sunglasses drawer for coins.

Vik888 Jun 19, 2010 04:48 AM

I'd like to keep coins without them making all that noise.

That drawer is another totally useless idea. I haven't found a single pair of sunglasses that fit in there.

Buy your sunglasses from Europe. I guess the sun is smaller here and we can manage with smaller glasses.

I removed the ashtray and bought the little rubber "mat" for it from the dealer.
That's where I keep my coins, mints, etc.
