Services, services, boy o' boy

I finally got into the service menu as press and hold the reset button on the Trip Odometer screen didn't work. It is pressing the reset button 3 times that worked. Here are what I found -
Service Data:
  • remaining miles: +6595 (until 52K)
  • remaining days: -91 (service D due for 91 days already as I have driven little in the past 6 months)
Work Items: US Service 3, 9, 10, 16, 12, 14
Additional Work: US Service 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9, 10, 16, 12

I suppose the dealer will try to push getting all additional work done and charge some big bucks - last time I talked to the SA, he told me service D was between $1200 - $1400. My questions are:
  • Service 8 - Every 150,000 miles or 15 years, Replace coolant - How did this get on the list? It's 2006 with 46k miles.
  • Service 9 - Every 2 years, Check bodywork for paint damage ... - So, what do they do when they find some scratches, some clear coat chips? Would they repair them and make it all new again?
  • Service 10 - Every 3 years, Clean slide rails and shoes to sliding/pop-up roof - Can I do this myself? Got any instructions?
Thanks very much in advance!

Bottom line tech should perform service in accordance to service sheet requirements (actual time elapsed/mileage accrued) and disregard MBMS recommended services.

Isn't service D = to new service B? That'd still make it $500 to $600 USD

Most dealers these days talk only in terms of A and B, or the "little one" and the "big one." Add to this things like the transmission fluid change.

If you want to do DIY, get a service DVD.

MBMS "Services"

Boy, on our 2007 E350 4M @ 41,000 miles the dash display also lists several "US Services" required, plus several "additional services", many of which do not come close to matching up with the STARTEK DVD or the printed maintenance booklet. Pretty confusing.

Anyway, for the 39,000 mile service (OK, I am a bit late on that) I am settling on an oil and filter change, plus the "one time" transmission fluid/filter and transfer case fluid changes. Plus the usual "look closely at things while you have the car in the air" stuff . . . Have rounded up the filters and Mobil 1 0W-40 (per 229.5 spec), and am getting the ATF and transfer case fluids today at the local M-B dealer. Those latter items have been a little tougher to source locally, and for the fairly small quantities and "one time" nature of the service, I figured a few extra $$ at the dealer is not a big deal.

So, what do you end up spending?

2019 E-450 Wagon
Got this from my MB dealer and Service Advisor:

To lessen confusion and cost, we treat the services as either A or B, these alternate every service. So, as of now, it would be due for the A service. It is your choice as to doing the regular or premium version. Pricing is $357.00 plus tax or $403.00 plus tax.

Expense

I spent about $225 in materials for the 39,000 mile service on our E350, about $90 of that was for oil and filter, the rest for transmission and transfer case fluids and filter. Details posted here: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w211...nsmission.html

I ended up cycling through the FSS and clearing service codes 12, 14 and 20 - those were the ones that actually seemed to match up to the work I did, as detailed in the maintenance booklet. The display now shows a "G" service due next, at 13,000 miles or one year. So the car must have somehow known that I used the fleece oil filter with the extended change interval . . . or maybe it just assumes that.
