Spare Tire

I'm looking at getting a OEM wheel and putting in the trunk does anyone know if a 225 x 55 x16 will fit in the spare place with out taking up any more room?
The car is a 06 E320 CDI.

Thank You

forget getting an OEM tire. I went to tirerack and found the closeouts and got an 18 OZ botticelli w/Conti DWS tire for $300 for both. Its full size and much better than a spare. The baseboard cover sticks up about 2inches higher w/the cover over it.

OE tire with OE size wheel fits fine. BTDT.

You'll need to order a different holddown and remove the styrofoam under the minispare. The new holddown basket provides a nice storage opportunity.

eBay is a pretty good place to get a wheel, although you have to read carefully to assure the wheel offered isn't a "replica." Also confirm shipping is NOT by FedEx because if it is wheel WILL arrive bent.

Good to know, thanks for sharing. Having recently limped home on the stock spare after hitting a crater, er pothole, a full size replacement would have been nice.

Thanks for the replies.

I found a place a few years ago and have used it for my Land Rover wheels and have never had any problems with the wheels.
They sell the OEM 16 x 8 for about $160 to my door.

Bigger wheels look nice but by the time you get the tire and wheel you have more weight spinning around with that its starts alot more needs.

I'm more of a gear head so I like something that looks stock.

Bear in mind that with a mini spare, you don't have to jack up the car as high as you would if you were putting on a full size, fully inflated tire. (which you will then have to take the extra time to jack higher than the bottom flattened tire that you just dropped off the car. You will have to jack the car higher up to line up the wheel bolt holes with the holes on the car than you will with the smaller spare tire.) Also, the mini is lighter and easier to heft around while you're lining up the holes. Therefore, you will be done quicker with the job, & out of harms way sooner and back in your car, on your way.

...That's assuming YOU are changing the tire with the tiny scissor jack and hand tools, on the side of the road rather than a long handled Heavy Duty garage/service truck jack and power tools for the lug bolts that a Road Service guy will bring to the party..

I have not looked but I would think that a mini spare can not be driven at highway speeds safely, and the mini spare is just for temporary use.

I'd say 50MPH for a total of 100 miles.

I'd rethink this.

The minispare HAS to be the same rolling diameter as the original tire to avoid complications with the differential(s).

Now on a jacked-up car the wheel may go in at an angle and the narrower width could help, but I'd think it's pretty minor.

When I've rotated tires using the mini as a placeholder I can't recall needing to add more height to get the normal tire mounted.

I'd say they're similar, but notice any car with one of them mounted on an axle... The car always is "kneeling" in that corner.
