I don't think output will be that great with these Halogen lamps.

These are genuine Mercedes parts I believe for an SL. I also removed the ashtray and replaced it with the OEM rubber insert to create a little more storage space.

The next thing I do to my W211...Cleaning the Weathertech liner and footwell area!

Looks great, this is one of my favorite wheels for the W211. I've been keeping my eyes open for a used set for my 2008, due to poor road conditions I've been considering downsizing to a 17" rim with a taller tire when I replace my summers next spring. I'll keep my stock 18" 20-spokes for winter since I have a brand new set of 18" Blizzaks, and the roads aren't as rough when the snow fills in all the potholes...

so it was long day but I've done interior conversion from black to black/grey.
I'm not 100% sure if I'll do door cards as well, but I did strip the grey door cards for leather part. So will see.

Replaced the main Water Pump. Wasn't too bad of a project to do in the driveway. Took about 3+ hours.

Popped the right rear tire on a pot hole. Warning: Do not run 255/35/18 tires...there is not enough sidewall to prevent the wheel from pinching during an impact. It wasn't even a deep pot hole. The rim is fine. I'm figuring I could run a 255/40/18's or 255/ 45/18's as long as they clear the inner fender wells and be better off.

So I'm now looking for (2) winter style 255/40/18 or 255/45/18 tire replacements. New or used.

Thats a small tire size, I think I run those on my Z4. Guessing the ride was very rough.

I run 20x9 20x10.5 with 245/35 n 275/30. I've been thru a pothole and couple solid "bumps" on bridges on high speeds, I;ve had no problem. However, my cousin ran thru like 3 deep potholes and his rim cracked, tires were still perfect. He runs same specs as me besides in rear, he has 275/25/20 and still came out good.

Something else must've happened to ur tire to pop or there was something that went thru the tire? Cuz a tire shouldn't pop just like that then the tire itself isn't safe, not the low sidewall. The wheel should feel more impact here. But im glad ur wheel is still in good condition.

Ended up changing my idler pulleys, oil cooler gasket, and all 4 magnetic cam shaft adjusters.

Something i learned when doing the magnetic cam job on the driver side, you'll lose about 1.5 liters of coolant, and some power steering fluid...so you'll need a bottle of power steering fluid as well. Removing the power steering reservoir
is the worst part of the job.

Installed a new thermostat housing on my E320 CDi. An easier job than I was anticipating.

Replaced transmission mount. Four bolts...no brainer. There had been a very subtle vibration I felt in the seat of my pants...gone now.

Do you mind telling us how long the balance shaft job took and how much it cost? Was the work performed by an MB dealership, by an indy, or by you personally?

The tranny from my E55 is currently being rebuilt. Decided to be pre emptive and get her done before I start to throwing all the power on her.

I did the work myself and bought the full kit from the dealer. You can buy just the balance shaft, counterweight and new bolt for half the cost (~$180). The full kit comes with gaskets, oil filters, new cam magnet sensor, cam gear plates, rear main seal plate, etc. The kit was $370. Since some of the parts are single use, I figured it's better to buy the kit. I also added new plugs, air filters, engine mounts and you'll need engine oil, power steering fluid and antifreeze. I bought the WIS DVDs on eBay for $15, a rear main seal tool for $60 and a crankshaft holding tool for $40. No other special tools were needed. Buy the WIS DVDs!!

I spent a total of approximately 30 hours. I don't know how that ranks - but a few caveats: My W211 is a 211.056 - a RWD sedan. The 4Matic is more complex. I pulled the engine only, left the transmission in the car - not sure if that cost me time or saved it. I didn't have to rush - had a spare car for 2 months and took advantage of the luxury of time. I work really slow - marking and labeling stuff, reading and re-reading instructions, cleaning stuff, inspecting stuff, torquing every bolt, etc. If I worked for a dealer - they would fire me or I'd put them out of business.

Pulling the engine is a breeze, disassembling the engine to get to the point of replacing the balance shaft is not complex - just need patience and methodical steps. A lot of time cleaning - as the front timing cover, oil pans, etc use gasket maker not replaceable gaskets. I planned on keeping the car for at least 10 more years, hated the thought of metal making its way around the engine and just didn't want to worry about it. All in I'm at a fraction of what a dealer would have charged, I enjoy wrenching and now can drive worry free for however many miles the car will go.
