Budget AMG look Exhaust and Bumper

I was at Barnes and Noble yesterday and spotted an e500 with AMG 5 Spokes and chrome exhaust. The exhaust was double tipped on each side like the AMG and poking through the rear bumper.

Upon closer inspection, they had simply straightened / extended the end of the existing muffler, added chrome tips to the existing exhaust and then cut two pieces out of the bumper (about 3 X 6") to accomodate the tips. Unforunately, the battery was dead on my digital camera!

I'm not sure I would do it to my car but it looked fine!

Who wants to try it first? Volunteers ...

I put these tips (and completely new Magnaflow mufflers) on my car for only around $550 installed. I didn't want to cut the valance, but it could be done as well to integrate the tips. It sounds, runs and looks much better IMHO...

EPower, those tips look very nice... could you tell me where you bought them from? And how are they installed? Just clamped on? or welded? You didn't have to cut anything, did you?

I bought them and had them installed by Santa Margarita Muffler in Lake Forest (ask for Dominic). The mufflers and tips are from Magnaflow. The mufflers were welded onto the stock pipes, and then the tips were welded onto the mufflers. He also welded a bracket onto the mufflers to keep them stable. Nothing was cut, except of course for the old mufflers which were cut off.
Someone else asked about oval vs. quad tips...Magnaflow, and others, do have oval and a variety of other tips which you can choose from. I just opted for the quads. Dominic can do anything you want done on the exhaust, for at least $1,000 less than you would pay for AMG, Remus, etc., etc. It kills me to hear about guys on this and other boards paying BIG bucks for MB, AMG, Remus, etc. mufflers/tips when you can get the same or better quality for much less. If you buy the rear valance, he could easily design and install a system to fit that as well.
Good Luck...

Sounds great IMO. A deep, soft rumble versus a grandfatherly quiet stock sound. Not at all too loud, but you can notice an exhaust note. If you want it quiet, don't do it. As for the HP difference I really don't know. Magnaflow usually quotes a 3-5 HP increase. I am going back up to Santa Monica Wednesday to visit Powerchips for an upgrade to their ECU program. They have remapped the ECU for the K&N filters and the exhaust, and they also now have the top speed limiter removed! I am thinking about Dyno testing the car after the remap, and I'll post the results.

I you paid anywhere close to $70K for this car, you are even dumber than you sound suggesting that anyone would desire to pay more than they have to for any product/service at the same quality point....The reason most of us have the money we do is that we are smart enough to not throw it away as you are suggesting...

oh, im sorry, sixty thousand dollar car. i am not suggesting that anyone throw away their money. but i dunno why you would wanna save money on an exhaust look, that doesnt look that great instead of paying a little more for the original parts.

Paying $60K+ for any car is frivilous spending and trying to save a few bucks after that is oxymoron. People who spends this kind of money on cars either have large disposable income or trying to live up to the Jones'. If I can pay $70K+ for a Mercedes I will not put any cheezy aftermarket parts on my car and justify how much money I can save by doing so. If saving money is your goal, then drive a Toyota. The verbal insult on CarlssonCRS was uncall for.

I preferred the orginal AMG quad exhaust tips because it is OEM part and it does not cheapen the looks of the car.

thanks. anyways i wouldnt put cheap aftermarket parts on the car either.. i would only go with the best modifiers, i wouldnt try to save a few extra bucks with some no-name, generic parts.

sure its your own preference if you want AMG, kleemmann, brabus, lorinser or carlsson. but i think that if you are gonnna modify, you should modify well.

I applaud the effort at having an efficient and good looking exhaust for less $$$.

Unless someone posts a dyno that shows the AMG/Kleeman whatever supertuner exhausts are 4x better than this setup - I think the original poster is on the right track.

I think spending $2,000 on an exhaust is pretty silly. If you really want speed - spend the $$$ on forced induction.

well it looks and sounds good.
using a cheap exhaust is like wearing a cheap suit to your high-paying, corporate job.

whoever said Magnaflow was cheap aftermarket parts... just because they don't add a few hundred dollars for the name doesn't mean it sux in performance....

Some prefer Armani other's prefer custom tailor... don't really get whats the arguement over... just as long as you like them.. then be happy =)
