2007 E350 Sport Package - Tires

Everyone:

I need recommendations on tires for my 2007 E350 w/Sport Package 18" Staggered Fitment Rims.

The vehicle came with ContiPro Contact. I was looking at Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus. The MB Dealer Service Dept says the Michelin A/S Plus's pull either right or left and recommend to stick with Continentals.

I am stuck between Michelin's & Continentals. So anyone that has a 2007 E350 similar to mine, please share your experience with tires.

Should I ignore the dealer's advice and go with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus or MXM4's? or if Continental then ContiPro Contact, or ContiSport Contact 3 or ContiPro Contact Extreme???

Please help!!!

tires

I have the same car 2007 E350 sport

Replaced my tires ay 51k with the sport plus michelins, all four and had a four wheel alignment.

just had to replace the rears at 69K were at the wear bars.

I maintain pressure and don't abuse the car, these tires had a wear warrantied for 45K, michelin prorated my wear and replaced the rears for 40% of the retail price.

This applies to tires purchase prior to 2011, they changed the warranty to 25K on cars that can't have the tires rotated like ours, purchased after 2011.

The tires are very good, quiet, ride well, great wet weather traction.

I was told by the tire dealers and Mercedes service that 25K is about the best
to expect on this car from any tire. If anyone has a suggestion for another tire that wears better, I would sure like to know about it.

Just one more expense to consider when owning a car like this.

Dave

They likely recommend staying with Continentals because they sell Continentals. Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus are outstanding tires and have provided great handling, performance, noise, etc. on my C300. However, even though we swap both cars onto Blizzak WS60 for the winter, I still put Conti DWS on my wife's E350 for the clearly superior traction in wet and early winter snow. For anyone who is in a snow area and runs the same supposedly "all season" tires all year, the DWS are in a league of their own for water/snow/ice among all season tires. They do give up a bit in dry weather precision of steering response, but the compromise is based on your driving style requirements and the weather you encounter. Even if buying Conti and the dealer can get you the DWS (nothing else from Conti, other than the summer version "DW" is worth considering), check the prices versus tirerack.com or Discount Tire. Be sure whoever installs them uses a Road Force balancer and do a new 4 wheel alignment if it's been a long time since that was completed.

I agree, the Continental Extremecontact DWS is one of the best tires for the money especially when light snow use is a consideration.

In addition to all the attributes observed by Sportstick, the DWS also affords a nice compliant ride even with low profiles (I'm running 245/35/19s on 19x8.5s) - rides better than stock. I also believe the tires have a lower rolling resistance as the car seems to coast easier now.

Just bought some DWS last year and they have a great ride and works great in local California mountains when it is ski season. But...I get serious ESP engagements in dry conditions (vs Conti's) when driving at the edge of the envelope. I need the snow feature so for now I am restricted on off ramps.

I have the stock-sized 18" Michelin Pilot A/S Sport Plus tires on my '08 E63. I love them. I don't have the problem with pulling left or right. The ride is amazing. The car feels planted. I have to have A/S tires in the drizzly pacific northwest weather, and this was a good trade-off tire. I am happy with my decision.

I think we are all agreeing on how good both the Pilot A/S Sport Plus and the DWS are. The issue will be where the OP lives (snow area or not) and whether he will also change to dedicated winter tires, and is willing to trade off a bit of capability in wet for noticeable improvement in dry steering and handling.

Snow, one set all year: DWS
Snow, also dedicated winter: Pilot Sport A/S Plus and Blizzak WS70 (winter)
No Snow: Pilot Sport A/S Plus

I had the factory Michelin's w/staggered set up on my 07 E550 when I lived in NY on L.I. until 04/10 when I moved to SoFla. Still Wouldn't have any other tire on the car.

Your dealer is full of crap. Both Conti and Michelin are OEM. Had my car come with the Contis they'd have been "Take-Offs".
