Wood Wheel Is it safe?

I think the wood wheels look great but just how safe are they? My hands are normally on the top part of the wheel which is wood. It would seem to me that it might be easy to slip. On my earlier MB's that didn't have leather, I would have them covered in leather in order to have better control.

I drive pretty much the same way. The wood wheel is not a bit slippery in my judgement. It feels great and there is a nice change when you change hand position to the leather on the side positions.

My only concern has been that I would scratch it with a ring.

It is not a safety issue as far as I am concerned.

Wood wheel not for everyone. Your hand driving position should be considered first.

I agree with Etenn

I had my retro fitted as a gift from the dealership given probelms with the car. It is lovely - very tactile and a pleasure in all weathers. I would recommend it.

I love my wood wheel, looks great!! Took a little getting used to as far as the hands going from one texture (leather) to another (wood), both in feel and temp. If I was a race car driver which I'm not, I would go for the stock wheel. my $.02

Thanks for the feedback. It looks like for me living in AZ where it is easy to perspire, I may not be wise in ordering it for my 04 E. I guess the only practical way for me would to start using driving gloves like I did for years in driving various sports cars. Gloves would also help prevent ring scratches. Thanks again. The wheels sure do look great.

I would not leave it off your car. It feels great to drive with in all weather...I have never scratched it and really don't think that is a problem.

It really completes the interior of the car. It is without a doubt one of the best options you can put on. There have been many, many posts in the past and all have been highly praised the wood wheel.

Search the forum under wood wheel and see what you turn up.

Got the wood wheel and here in So.Texas it gets hot, but the wheel feels solid, smooth and I actually prefer holding the wood even if it's hot.

P.S.I only get sweaty palms when the spousal unit asks to drive.

My thoughts

I actually think I get a better grip on the wood. It's not slippery at all. The leather is mussy and harder to hold on to for me.

The steering wheel I have has wood on top and bottom, but it is inserted only into the portion of the wheel facing you. The back of the wheel, where you grip it, is still leather, and easy to hold. I also have ergonomic grips built into the sides

Where did you get this wheel? How much was it? Do you have pics? Sounds nice.
