Distronic - like it so much ... But how do I

Decrease speed by 1 kph ( european version).

I simply love this feature but I seem to miss how I decrease speed by less than 10 kph.

If I move stalk up it increases speed by 10 kph and down = - 10 kph.
Moving stalk towards me increases speed by just 1 kph but moving away from me turns distronic off completely ( same as breaking)

I find I need the small speed decrease as often as the increase. Is there something I miss? I have no manual and my search in the forums seems to be related to the difference btw. Cruise control and the distronic system as well as its placement in front of the car ( the round black thingie)

I tryied pressing the limiter on the stalk to see if it was some sort of combination I missed but it seems to do.. Well exactly that. Limit the speed.

You may laugh and point fingers ( but only if solution is obvious)

FYI, here in the US, distronic works in increments of 5 MPH when you increase or decrease speed.

OK. That would be approx. 8 kph so they rounded up here to 10. I assume this is when you move stalk up. How about when you pull it towards you then?

it doesn't re-set to your current speed when you pull toward you?

Push stalk up = Increase speed by 10km
Push stalk down = Decrease by 10km
Pull towards you = Increase by 1KM
Push away = Deactivate.

There is no way to decrease speed by 1KM, you just have to go down 10 then up by 1km until you're at the speed you wish to be at.

Cheers

Push stalk up = Increase speed by 10km
Push stalk down = Decrease by 10km
Pull towards you = Increase by 1KM
Push away = Deactivate/Resume or Activate SBC Stop (car brakes on its own when you take your foot off the accelerator pedal) ... but i can't remember exactly which function it does

bernard: Yes it does resume the last set speed when I pull towards me.

Oh well I guess as willy_manilly states i cannot decrease speed by one kph

This will be the one (and the ONLY one thing I miss from my old Citröen C5)

Which car are you talking about? My 211 did not do that.

This is what all of the cars in our family do (that is you can both increase and decrease speed either by 1 km/h or 10 km/h increments):
http://www4.mercedes-benz.com/manual...ual_base.shtml

To activate or increase speed LIM indicator lamp To activate at the current speed/last stored speed To activate or reduce speed To switch between cruise control and variable SPEEDTRONIC To deactivate cruise control
When you activate cruise control, the stored speed is shown in the multifunction display for five seconds. A triangle is also shown in the speedometer. The speedometer dial lights up between the set speed and the maximum speed.
Selecting cruise control

Check whether LIM indicator lamp is off.
If it is off, cruise control is already selected.
If it is not, press the cruise control lever in the direction of arrow .

LIM indicator lamp in the cruise control lever goes out. Cruise control is selected.

Storing and maintaining the current speed

You can store the current speed if you are driving faster than 30 km/h.

Accelerate the vehicle to the desired speed.

Briefly press the cruise control lever up or down .

Remove your foot from the accelerator pedal.

Cruise control is activated. The vehicle automatically maintains the speed.

Storing the current speed or calling up the last stored speed

WARNING

Only call up a stored speed if you know what that speed is and if it is suitable for the current traffic and driving situation. You can otherwise endanger yourself or others by unintentionally triggering sudden acceleration or braking.

Briefly pull the cruise control lever towards you.

Remove your foot from the accelerator pedal.

The first time cruise control is activated, it stores the current speed or regulates the speed of the vehicle to the previously stored speed.

Setting a speed

Press the cruise control lever up for a higher speed or down for a lower speed.

Keep the cruise control lever pressed until the desired speed is reached.

Release the cruise control lever.

The new speed is stored.

Setting in 1-km/h increments: press the cruise control lever briefly up or down to the pressure point.

The last stored speed increases or decreases in 1 km/h increments.

Setting in 10-km/h increments: press the cruise control lever briefly up or down beyond the pressure point.

The last stored speed increases or decreases in 10 km/h increments.

Thats very weird, mine isn't like that at all. Just went for a drive to check too. Car is a 2004 E270CDI in Australia

Neither is mine. But almost.

I do not have this "dual" feature regarding the up and down. There is no preassure point. Simply up in 10 kph or down in 10 kph steps. 1 and 4 in the pictures.

Only way to have 1 kph (and increments only) is the 3 option towards me.

Going for Pizza now. Will quardrouple check.

Update:

No go. I have only one settijg when moving stalk up ad down. No pressure point middle setting thingie. Just 10 kph up and down.

I think that perhaps the manual refered to earlier in this thread is not for all w211s.

I noticed i had no warning triangle when using the speed limiter either, so perhaps there are several configurations available.

I just bumped into my neighbour who is into the taxi business here in Denmark and he has had quite a few 211s in the past years. None of them had distronic though. He wil ask some of the drivers about this. He remembered something about disabling the distronic in the ECU essentially making it a standard cruise control during winter time beacuse of the risk of malfunction when the distronic unit is behind dirty or iced up protection plate integrated into the grill.
Hope this makes any sence. The lady of the house haa the car now so I cannot check that in the menus now.

I believe 2007 or newer will allow you to go up and down 1mph/kph. Not the 2003-2006.

As already mentioned, the "two step" approach appeared at some point and a 2004 car would not have this.

I'm a bit confused about cars that have a 10 km/h step (or something similar in mph) but do not have the 1 km/h step in one or both ways.

If the car makes a 10 km/h step in one way (up or down) and a 1 km/h step in the other direction (and the driver knows what he/she is doing), the stalk must be broken (the multifunction switch is known to have issues, I have not hear so much about the CC switch having issues).

If the CC always changes speed by 10 km/h, up and down, it could also be a version coding issue but still more likely a broken switch.
