Thanks for posting! Great photos. This was very helpful. I used two "thermostat" screwdrivers.
When the lens popped out, I thought I'd broken things- but it was only the clip pressure releasing.
My '05 E CDI has 201,000 miles, and both marker bulbs burned out within a thousand miles of each other...

Great instructions if you have a pre-face lift W211. I noticed from the pictures that the design of the lens and housing are different on my 2008.

Yes this is incredibly stupid to try to do on a facelift model, and I don't think it's recommended either way.
Long Islander, there is a write-up on this forum if you search it about replacing the bulbs and actually the entire housing on the sidemarker lights. But here's a quick rundown for 2007+ W211 models.
-> Turn your wheel to full lock on the appropriate side to allow access to the wheel well you will be working with
->Using the appropriate removal tool or some type of instrument that will serve the similar purpose, remove the plastic pins on the inside of the wheel well and under the car connecting the plastic well to the front bumper.
->Pull this rubber/plastic wheel well back and you can reach in behind the bumper and feel where you can twist out the bulb and associate wire to remove and replace the bulb.
Very simple process, to replace both housing took me about an hour the first time I did it. To replace the bulbs I am down to a 10-15 minute process for both sides - very simple.

+1 I prefer this method.
A couple of years after installing clear markers (purchased from ebay, bulbs purchased separately), one side came off loose; apparently a clip on one side of the housing, was not tight enough. I removed the housing, re-tensioned the clip with a heat gun, let it cool then reinstalled; never had a problem since.

No such problem, look perfect as ever. I'm using silver bulbs that give out an amber light; perhaps these don't generate the same heat.

What type did you get.
Anyone have any luck with LED markers or LED marker bulbs?

I've had the eBay ones too and while I had water leak into them and cause issue with the bulbs, they haven't cracked or overheated. Regular incandescent bulbs with the silver coating that give out an amber color as well... LEDs are probably a bit more difficult as with different voltage you'd have to have some type of error eliminator (my guess).

? yeah I just checked they are the same brand, under my purchase history they are DEPO "DEPO 2007-2009 Mercedes W211 E-CLASS CLEAR BUMPER SIDE MARKER..." they look the exact same as well. Not sure why I've had issues with leaking.
For pre-facelift models......

Actually, the method I posted at the top of this thread in the PDF is based directly on the instructions in the 2004 MY operator's manual. There is even a diagram in the manual showing the direction in which to move the lens. p 383, as I recall. So, for a pre-facelift model it is a two - three minute job.

Looking for driver side marker light and found this, but i'm not sure which one would work for my car.

I only want to replacement oem part and not upgrade anything like that because someone just bump my car this morning at the parking lot and left without any note.

I decide to take my car to Mercedes dealer (FJ Mercedes Newport Beach CA) for front left marker light replacement.
It turns out the housing is still ok, no need for new one. Only light bulb needs to be replaced.
Surprisingly, only takes 15 minutes to replace new lamp an IT IS FREE OF CHARGE (lamp and labor)
Last time I had my car service there was November 2010 (end of warranty).

It's really easy to do yourself, no reason it shouldn't be free - and this forums covered it quite a bit. Just take off a few push pins in the wheel well, pull back the material, and reach behind it, twisting out the bulb. You can do it in 5 minutes.

Love these forums for information prior to delving into a project. AMGAffaltebach's quick reference worked like a charm. Done in 5 minutes. Thanks brother..

Good to hear my friend! Nice point though - it's nice the MB dealerships do small things like bulbs (except headlights), coolant top off, etc. for free, but I guess it's only fair for their astronomically high repair bills.
