Thank you konigstiger. Much relieved.

sorry for not getting back sooner. Car has been fixed, I have noticed a much better acceleration, and no diesel sound intermittently. if you're looking for symptoms I would say sluggish, some times while car is idling it sounds like a quite diesel rattle front of motor. also as I was in the car, once at idle in park, the rpms dropped and ran rough for a second or two then idle normal, did this three or four times. good luck to the rest. Now I'm dealing with the driving going into neutral feel, have to shift from drive to neutral several times then go into gear.

Plutoe 04-10-2015 11:47 AM

To me your post does not make any sense---first you say the car was fixed----then you run on about symptoms---then you say you have a problem with the transmission--

FYI,this is a very focused topic within the W211 with the subject---The dreaded M272 balance shaft.

Perhaps you may want to correct your post and post in correct forum--do you drive a C280---is that correct!

Timmyym 04-10-2015 12:05 PM

Plutoe it is a C280

I wrote after it was repaired: here were the "symptoms". I read that others wonder what to look for if no CEL on. This is why I read post and don't get involved sorry for helping.

As to the later my trans is acting up and was hoping someone had info to maybe post some help.

So don't run while reading
Thank you

In the process of purchasing a 2006 MB CLS 55 AMG for about $29k with 56,000 miles...having a pre-sale inspection independently done at a separate MB dealership beforehand. Selling my 2009 MB CLS 550 with 70,000 miles on it to upgrade to the AMG. Welcome comments.

Hi:
It is a 2008 (built in July 2007) ML 350 with number
4JGB...3000050
Must started making noise today and it does have a 272 engine according to be booklet.

Thanks in advance.

konigstiger 04-20-2015 11:32 AM

MY08 you should be fine, check your PM.

801 04-20-2015 02:03 PM

um, 'scuse me .. but .. is it me ... or is Konigstiger's post above regarding the class action settlement a huge and total BOMBSHELL !!!????!!! To have Balance Shaft sprocket replacement covered by MBUSA !?!?!?! I would have expected much more fan fare and reaction to this announcement. This is like the sword of Damocles taken away from over your M272 heads... 105k miles on my 2006 M272 and no sign of Balance Shaft issue (yet) ... but this takes all the pressure off ... if this announcement is indeed the real deal and I understood it correctly (repair now covered by MBUSA).

It's a proposed settlement so it's not done yet. Also on the bottom end, it mentions 10 years or 125k and that the coverage could be 100%, 70% or 37.5%. That last bit, 37.5% isn't that great because some dealers fixed it under goodwill for 50% of the repair costs. Probably need more details before it's a good settlement. Because it was just 2006 and some 2007 models, 10 years means that you're only going to get one or two years of warranty coverage at most.

engine no check????

My R350 has been having multiple issues that we feel are balance shaft related. We are trying to figure out if our M272 Engine is included in the serial numbers ranges that have been affected. Our vin is 4JGCB56E88A067504 and the engine no is 27296730724855.
Any help understanding the ranges would be greatly appreciated.

The dreaded M272 Balance Shaft

Would you mind checking mine for me please? I have a 2007 R350, the check engine light is on and I've been told the codes state that I have a cam shaft timing issue. I tried looking up my VIN# to determine the engine number and it looks like my engine number isn't covered but it also seems confusing. My vin # is 4JGCB65E27A059338

I appreciate you looking that up for me, but I'm confused. I've been told by two different shops (not Mercedes) that I have the balance shaft issue and that its a $5-$6K repair. If I have the issue and I'm not covered by the law suite it would seem that i'm screwed instead of fine :)
Should I take it in to Mercedes and see what they diagnose? Any other thoughts?

OK, Just heard back from the MB dealer. It is definitely the balance shaft issue even though the engine number is out of range. They have refused to cover the cost of repair. They say MB is saying the litigation has not been settled. My car is past due on inspection since Oct 14 and it won't pass with this issue. Total cost of repair $6914.00. Not sure what to do now.
