You can see Alpine Nav models at most Best Buys, Circuit Citys and Tweeters. They also have a web site. Suggest looking in the yellow pages for your area. A good audio/car radio outfit is better than the chains, if they have experience with your car type. Parts of your car need to be dissembled to snake the wires/antenna. I had an Alpine in my 98 E and it was great. Which model is partly answered by where you want to screen. Some screens retract into the dash. They use a Navtech map database like most. I find the voice prompts to serve best, and resort to looking at the map only for tricky areas, or to get me to an intersection when I know the approximate location of a destination but not the address.
