I just got off the phone w/my salesman, and he said estimated arrival of next month. While I'm anxious to get my replacement, I guess I'm happy MB is letting me drive/put miles on my current car. So, there is actually some benefit to getting it later

I was on an interstate yesterday and it did have the Blue I-495 sign on the map. No other roads though. I'm sure it's in the book, I just have not had time to read it yet!!

Also, anyone who got their replcamenet. is the wood a little darker on the center console than on your original? Mine seems to be definitely darker. Kind of liked the old one better. I figured they all would be pretty uniform, but maybe there is some variation.
My wood wheel is a little darker but the rest of the trim seems the same to me.

Congratulations Rayscar!!!

On my wife's car (SL500) the Comand has an option for "fastest" route or "toll route" when inputting a request for navigation directions. Once, in Naples, Florida, when putting in the request to return to the east coast of florida, I must have used the "fastest route" and not the "toll route" option. The navigation had me taking the "Tamiami Trail" to Miami when I-75 "Alligator Alley" was a far better route, especially as I live north of Fort Lauderdale where I-75 heads. Fortunately, I quickly figured it out.

The moral of the story is that it pays to read the instructions or to be ready for adventure!!!!!

Thanks Jeff. Long time no hear. Hope all is well. I did see options to avoid toll roads, bridges etc. Shortest route is probably there too. BTW, you were right. I do love the wood wheel!

nav dvd question...

how does nav work? my understanding is that the dvd contains everything for the US...so that would mean that it contains all of the streets, restaurants, gas stations, etc...that are available for the US maps.

how does it handle updates? i'm thinking 5, 10, 15 years into the future when streets change a bit and restaurants go out of business, new ones are added, etc.

Rock.

Yes that is correct. The DVD handles all that info. I asked my dealer about updates and he said MB is not good about that. I've never had a nav before so i don't know if that is true.

Also if the system works like many others it will go blank when you hit Canada. my brother's lexus literrally stopped in the middle of the birdge across Niagra Falls.
Believe it or not I think it is a security issue.

I believe the COMAND manual says the DVD covers the USA, Canada, and Hawaii.

In the past, MB generated updates every 12-15 months.
