Nav Replacement Program Legalities—Help!

Arranging with the dealership to exchange automobiles. They are asking for a check of around $700 to cover re-registration costs. Is this normal?

I thought that part of the program included covering all such costs.

Need to get back to the dealer ASAP. Would appreciate all feedback.

Every post that I have seen reports that MB picks up all the costs, including registration. Someone did post that they were charged $75.00.

I pick mine up tomorrow or Wednesday. I have been told that it is a "no cost" transfer and that MB picks up everything associated with the trade except for any additional upgrades you have added.

Did you receive a letter or document mentioning that it would be "no cost?"

I paid nothing except upgrades, and the dealer gave me a wood wheel for free. I hear this transfer is very complex, and some dealers may have insufficient facts, or fail to understand them, or think they can pull one over you.

Bmms, are you saying that you have confirmed they are charging for "extra" miles?! This was rumored here a few times, but most of us heard nothing from our dealers about this. I would be so pissed off if they had hit me with something like this. The letter they sent out made no mention of a mileage limit. Nothing like changing the rules halfway thru the game. If this is true it must be dealer specific.

well, it might be from dealer to dealer, he asked me how many miles i ad, i said around 5300 miles, and he said, o, tats fine, then i remember the rumors, and i asked, is there a limit, and he said yes, some people got charged because they had to many miles..hopefully it will different with some other dealers, its a pretty dumb rule, i would fight it if you are over the limit....the whole time MB just said the car has to be in "average condition"

Leslie,

I am the lone person on this board who paid something out of pocket ($75, it was for registration). The only reason I didnt make a big fuss about it was because he gave me floor mats that were worth more than the $75 and had gone out of his way to get me a replacement car. In addition, my original car bumper was scratched up and he didn't even look at the condition of my original car. I felt that the dealer had been quite fair with me so I didn't really mind. My dealer had 20 replacements to take care of and I believe that they all had this charge. I called MBUSA and they told me that this is between me and the dealer and they have no position on it. If I were you, I would not pay the fee. I think they are just trying to squeeze some money out of you.

Z,

Thanks for your advice. It seems that this is exactly what has been goin on with me. I am now involved with MB Corp. who has intervened.

I greatly appreciate your comments as well as all others who have responded so timely and openly to my posting. It really helped my position.

My dealer, Ray Catena in Edison, tried to charge me $275 registartion an doc fee. I basically told them to shove it and they backed off, I paid nothing.

Picked up my replacement car today.

I paid zip...MB picked up everything including sales tax and license fees.

BTW...for those interested, I had 18,500 miles on the E-500 and no mention was made of any "Excess Mileage" charge. I was prepared to fight it but it was not necessary.

They did ask how I got that many miles in in 10 months.

Picked mine up in July, no charges except for E1 which I added...

Hey, to all you getting the new Nav, if you have an MP3 player, please try plugging it into the jack in the glove box and seeing if it works using AUX on the stereo... Mine doesn't... Please let me know... (I have an Ipod).

Thanks all.

That's great news Ed. I'm glad it wasn't true. Probbaly my dealer trying to seem like they were good guys! Congrats. A great car is even better with COMAND IMO.

etenn,

Did you buy or lease your car ? I have 16,000 miles on my leased E500 in 9 months. My lease is for 20,000 miles a year. I wonder how the lease work on the exchange. Do I get 60,000 miles on the remainder of the lease ?

Latest development

Now I am being told that since the car had been in an accident (no major damage—new bumper, lights, hood realignment), it has far less value and I will have to pay a penalty for returning it in "less marketable condition."

Has anyone ever heard of this? Even when you return a car at the end of the lease period, I have never known of anyone charged for such a thing as long as the automobile has be properly repaired.

Feedback—PLEASE!

Paid cash for it. I am not sure how it would work with the lease. Maybe some of the guys who are leasing can post how it worked.
