battery contrl module part number compatibiliy
Anyone know what numbers are compatiple with A 211 540 13 45 ? This is a BCM from E320 2003.
Will A 211 540 42 45 or A 211 540 27 45 work? both come from E320s of the same year. What numbers will work if any one knows.

I think you are confused about MB parts---the original part number was 211 540 13 45 that was replaced by 27 45, that was replaced by 42 45, that was replaced by 69 45, that was replaced by 38 45 that was replaced by the current part number 86 45
Therefore to answer your question all of the part numbers you have listed are compatible, just old parts don't pay money for old parts!!

That's the current part number------- the OP is going the junk yard route---he'll be back whining about the BCM in a month or two!!
Everyone wants to own an old MB, then they beat their dog to death when it comes time to repair.

Just because a part number is changed does not mean it is an improvement.
I wish it was easier to cross reference compatible modules, as MB seems to like having a new part number for each car and revision.
Why not just a part number for the part and a revision suffix?

You are making something out of nothing---your lack of understanding is quite simple you don't have the experience with EPC therefore you think it's difficult----when in fact it is quite simple----any part number can be searched by where used bla bla bla
It's a super tool---Do yourself a favor and get a Free repeat Free subscription and learn somthing new or build on what you already know!!

You are right, I don't have much experience with the EPC.
So far most of my hunting has been for the VCS module for my GL320 (2038208285).
I found the correct number, but in looking at used replacements there are a large number of part numbers that all seem identical (or nearly so)
If you look here it seems to show 4 part numbers that are interchangeable.

Am I reading that correctly?

This seems to show 6 interchangeable BCM modules.
If it is a part that has a fairly low failure rate, why not use a compatible "recycled" module? If the earlier version had a high failure rate, or known problem, then I can see moving to the newest (or at least one past the failure problem.

I have no idea where you got or get your information, however 203 820 82 85 has never been replaced and it is for Canadian and USA----now if you want Russian French Polish bla bla ther is a part number for each language-----how else would you have it!!

This part contains a mechanical relay that fails. I would not use a used part if there is a new available. I considered a used part last year in ABQ when I could not get a part for 7 days, was out of town 1200 miles from home trying to get back home. I ordered the new part and it was at my home when I arrived. It was a PITA to disconnect the battery in 15F temps but I did what I had to do to get it home. Then after installing the car I sold it.

Used on W240---211 820 80 85 replaced by 240 820 15 85 replaced by 203 820 82 85 must have code 494 USA
Used on W240--211 870 36 26---bad number I suspect it should be 16 26 and that was replaced by 203 820 82 85 for code 498 Japan
The codes are the SA codes that are apart of the way the car was built. You need a VIN to determine the SA codes---that is why you should never do a parts search without a VIN, but some loud mouths don't believe that!!

I certainly understand how searching by VIN will get you the latest revision of the part for your car, but that does not help much is you are trying to find compatible parts.
I don't plan on spending $1180 to fix my Voice Control, but seems I can find the part "recycled" for between $75 and $150.
Years ago, I used to get parts for my Porsche from a dealer who's parts girl knew every trick in the book. Sometimes the identical Audi or VW part was cheaper. Sometimes it was actually updated (since they sold more, they revised the parts more often). Sometimes the old part was better (vendor cost reductions can take their toll).
Wish I could find such knowledge in the MB world.
I am not sure where MB of South Atlanta pulls the part numbers, but I would guess it is the MB parts system.
