Question Should I trade for an S63? your opinions?

I LOVE my E63, but I also LOVED my 02 S class.... I'm tempted to trade my E63 for an S63 but am concerned about reliability. My 02 S class had MANY issues... what are your thoughts about this trade idea?

The 221 chassis S class is a pretty sweet vehicle. It is a much better vehicle in terms of wear and tear items than the previous 220 chassis. The electronics are much better as well. You will either have airmatic, or ABC suspension. Personally, I would go for an airmatic vehicle. ABC is great when there are no problems, but it is extremely pricey to repair. It is an AMG, so the repair bills will be more expensive.

What year are you looking at?

If you go with a lower mileage car and get an aftermarket warranty, the sticker shock of maintenance shouldn't be too bad. I am super tempted to get an E63 as a replacement for my E550 (you're one step ahead of me sir) and that's my rationale - hey you already have an AMG and are used to tires wearing and gas disappearing more than normal so I don't think the S63 will be a huge jump.

Byyyyy the way, if you want to expedite the process and get more for your E63 than trade in would probably offer, I'd love to buy if off you. First I'd have to sell the E550 but that might not be a bad option at all if I can get it for a decent price

Okay I just took a moment to view your profile and look at "Grace" the beautiful E63 and I fell in love. As long as she has no rust or accidents, and a good service history I am sold. Please DM me if you're serious about selling and locate an S63 that you like - I'm in no particular hurry here to be honest. A carefully coordinated sale of my E550, sale of your E63 to me, and purchase of your S63 would be of unparalleled value to all of us. Keep me in mind Dave!!

Until I moved, I had a 2010 S65. I only had it 2 years so problems were small. I had to do maintenance as well as have it serviced normally. Nothing really sticks out at me as a reason to not buy one. Mine was used, CPO. I sold it back to the same dealership before I moved. I did put 3 sets of tires on in that time. Heavy foot.

I had 04 W220, sold it with 92K miles on the clock with no issues.
Driving 07 W221 now with 71K miles and going strong. the only probles are steering rack (replaced under aftermarket warranty) and Dynamic seats leaking air (bought the car like that when it had a little over 40K) wide spread issue on early models, hard to fix under aftermarket warranties.
Just like on any other MB get a warranty with good coverage. maintenance and repairs are not that much worse than E63 would be. Make sure that all service reccords are available... trans maintenance is a must..... bla bla bla.... the ususal.
Solid and comfy ride. S63 will be a tad stiffer than my 550 but i would be willing to trade stifness for quality handeling of ABC over airmatic. As mentioned electronics are well maid. Some may argue, but i think they are quite sufficiant and extreemly easy to use on the fly. My only problem with it is that you can not change the direction of heat/AC airflow without using command.
In my mind, once you go S class, nothing will ever be good enough after that. So be careful
