2004 E55 rear door won't open from *inside*

Locks and unlocks like normal, but only opens from the outside. The door pull lever on the inside moves without that tension that's there when the door is about to be unlatched.

Any ideas on what's going on here? Are there some sort of child locks that I can't find?

Should be posting here https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg-81/

Smartkey Global unlocks all doors, Selective unlocks only driver door & fuel filler flap. If vehicle previously locked with interior central switch (upper control panel above ashtray) while in “Selective mode” only the front door opened from inside is unlocked, “Global mode” vehicle is unlocked completely when a front door is opened from inside. Check manual for programming instructions.

I posted here because there are many more W211 owners than just W211 AMG owners, not to mention the door lock mechanisms are the same. More exposure = greater chances of help.

And none of that helps my situation as it's not just a normal power unlock/lock issue; something less obvious is the culprit.

Yes, there is a child lock switch. It is a manual switch on the door itself. Open the door from the outside, and look at the rear of the door.

Here are instructions to remove rear door lining.

if the "child lock" located behind the rear door is not the culprit, (could easily be turned on and off by accident when you're cleaning the car) then you might have to take out your sidings to find out.

This is what my door looks like. I don't see any switches.

Also, when I pull on the door handle of this right rear door, there is no sound or resistance whatsoever. This is opposite to the working left rear door in which you can hear the cable being pulled even while the door is open.

The switch is just above the latching mechanism in your picture.

Is your problem with one or both of the rear doors? If its one door, maybe the cable from the rear of the handle (inside the door) has come off the handle.

Just the right rear door. Guess I'll have to pull the panel off and see what's going in back there.

as mentioned, above the latching mechanism is you child lock switch. but it should have a switch that sticks out from it. check your other rear door and see if you have one there.

Did anyone ever find a fix for this?
On my 04 E55 W211 the right rear door won't open from the inside. I have tension on the handle however, if I move the manual lock stock down and back up, it then will open from the inside. The lock stock moves up and down and locks/unlocks as normal. This is the only door i have an issue with. I do not have child locks on or anything of that nature, nor do I have an issue with the keyless go. I've taken the door off and no cable seems to be disconnected or in a bind, so I am unsure where to go with this.
