Question Is any noticeable difference between 5 and 7 speeds?

1. Acceleration, smoother, faster? What's 0-60 now?
2. Fuel economy, any improvement?
3. RPM @ 70MPH?

from what ive heard, it is smoother, and faster. its suposed to get better gas mileage, but i dont think it improved that much.

not sure what official acceleration 0-60 is or gas mileage but definately smoother. I test drove a 5 speed auto from my03 and I can tell a noticable difference. 5 speed seemed make a clunking noise here and there when finding the right gear accelerating and decelerating. 7 speed like butter. Not sure of exact rpm's at 70 but I'm definately under 2000.

i think rpm would be lower too. the 7 spd is def faster. mb says 5.9 for 04, but its faster than that. mags got 03 500's in the 5.7 range.

Faster...

Ironically, all the 7 speed E500s tested in the German car magazines were slower than the 5 speed versions by a few tenths. Gas mileage was slightly better on them, but all magazines unanimously praised the smooth shifting and smaller gear shift rev fluctuation.

one mpg increase for highway driving

The stickers show for highway driving a one mile per gallon increase for the 2004 7 speed E500 over the 2003 5 speec E500. There is no difference in the city driving figure.

I would assume the power benefits would be punching it from a rolling start (say 40-50mph) as it would be more responsive and less of a lag with the gears closer together when it downshifts and with the two additional gears. Eventhough there is no additional HP with the 7G, I would assume it will be quicker from a rolling start.
