New To W211...Repairs & Mods questions

Hi ALL, I just picked up a 2005 station wagon 4Matic yesterday (@ an auction) with 116K miles. I think I got a good deal for $8k..One Owner..all service at Dealer.. after market SiriusXM still working...but Howard Stern channel not included..
No Keyless Go Package. I had a W210 sedan for 10yrs and put 210k miles...still running but its time to retire it @ 283k miles.

These are the items that Need repairs (suggestions is greatly welcomed)

1 Head rest control knob on the driver's side Ppwer Seat control missing/broken..
Can I replace just the the missing part OR have to replace the whole seat control?

2. The passenger seat only goes to halfway between the forward and backward position. and back doesn't recline past the upright position.
I'm thinking maybe something is on the track... Any suggestion/s on culprit?

3. Passenger and rear seats have some tears...probably from moving stuffs.
Any suggestion on repairs?

4. Passenger seat belt sensor comes on intermittently... I had the seat belt clicked to stop the annoying sound. Any suggestions?

5. Can't get the garage door opener to work with my Craftman door opener..

6. Rear passenger seat backrest not clicking (message on dash)

These are My Things/MOD to do - not sure if they are all possible. I need comments/suggestions...Thanks

1. Add rearview [BackUp] camera using command as monitor.
2. Add Tail Gate remote opener/power open/close
3. Debag....only E320..still debating if to remove 4matic...
4. Add Push Start - Is this possible economically?
5. Get A spare key - (How much is a replacement Key from the Stealer?)
is it possible to reprogram a similar key to work with my car? I saw one for sale on eBay
6. Replace the headlights to "facelift" version...is this a direct swap?
I had a "Zam-Modified" HID on my 210 and I want a comparable white light.
Can I swap OEM bulb with 6000K bulbs and get a nice bright white light? NO light error?
7. Upgrade taillight to "facelift" version...Is tis a direct swap? or do I need to make slight mod?
8. Add Bluetooth connection to NAV or other good option.

thanks for your time and input... I look forward to interacting with ALL in here....

Mods List

1. Don't know.
2. Are you sure you don't have one? It would be on the door under the handle toward the front of the car.
3. Easy - heat it up with a heat gun...slowly pry away. Then keep hot and clean glue and dirt away. After this is done, polish with compound and then polish. Buff and add wax. Should look fine.
4. Not that I am aware of.
5. I paid $150...not sure what your dealer would charge.
6. Should be. You can also clean the lens if you prefer. Saves times and money. Try DDM Tuning for a plug and play HID kit.
7. Should be with any of the EBay versions.
8. Not possible (that I know of). If you have an AUX port you can buy a Blackberry Bluetooth Music Gateway and plug it in...that will stream music via the AUX port.

You have to replace the whole door switch to get correct and functioning headrest control.
VERY common w211 problem

Keyless go is a pain and $$$ to retrofit.

Good luck!

thanks

Thanks for the feedbacks so far....any additional comments will be appreciated.

I found out that "Keyless Go" is not worth doing...so SCRATCHED!

I don't have the trunk/tailgate opener...just checked...I guess my car is basic when it comes to that...

I'll find an aftermarket bluetooth..

The satellite radio is connected tot he AUX on the command.

I think if the back of your Comand head unit has a green connector, you can integrate rear camera onto monitor. If not, you might have to go with the Euro Comand route to get backup cam, DVD player, and video in motion, but you lose SAT Nav. I'm still trying to figure the backup cam part out.

The dealerships in my area charge $300 per key. It's possible for someone highly skilled to reprogram an existing key but that's probably illegal..

I pretty sure OEM facelift headlights will not be plug and play. You're probably better off using those aftermarket versions from DEPO, they seem to work well. You could also just buy a broken set of facelift headlights and swap lens. Not sure about tail lights.

Repair List
1. No idea about Head rest control.
2. Station Wagon issue with the fold down rear seats (car thinks rear seats are down, and moves front pass seat. Search to fix remove this feature)
3. MB tex I assume. Pretty easy to repair, kits available at auto store, and pro's do a decent job.
4. Weight sensor needs calibrated. Common problem
5. I have a craftsman opener, so it can work. I have to program the mirror to send the correct type of signal then the door-opener to accept it.
6. This is why #2 is an issue.

Mods
1. Think there is a Mid City Unit for this. (I have thier autostart and bluetooth units seamless integration but pricey)
2. No idea
3. Floss, clay bar, and wax. Make it symetrical.
4. Add keyless go = $$$$$
5. Had to get one a year ago 100-200 range
6. Yes. H7 HID retrofits work nice with out current projectors.
7. Grill and hood latch assembly required.
8. I have the Mobridge midcity bluetooth with integrates in the fiber-optic ring. Seamless integration with command, instrument cluster, and steeringwheel. Adds bluetooth phone, wired-ipod, buetooth streaming. Very nice only downside is $900 price and loss of CD changer functionality. I also have their remote start wich is awesome if you park outside in the cold winter.

...UPDATEs

Once again I appreciate all your suggestions and inputs...here are my updates..

Repair List:
1. will get a replacement seat control
2. Thanks rediesel...I was able to lock rear seat & front seat act normal now.
3. I will look into kits, but knowing me, I'll probably take it to a pro.
4. Will search for the weight sensor adjustment.
5. Synced A video on Youtube helped me with this...manual instructions sucks IMO.
6. Need a lil more push to lock...it fixed #2...

Mods/Wish List:
1. I'm still looking into this and researching it slowly...(been busy @ wk)
2. Will pass on adding tailgate remote...I'll live with it...
3. E320 emblem coming off tomorrow AM
4. Push Start/ Keyless GO was A Dream...not going to happen..
5. I will take a trip to my local Stealer once car is registered in my name.
6. I will be upgrading to the post-facelift lens and HID kit..
7. I'm going to focus on a aftermarket blue tooth...
8. I'm considering a auto start to warm up car in the cold.....

Cheers!

I snapped off my headrest control but luckily found the little button an I was able to use a small metal dowel and some superglue to carefully re-install it. I'd find a junkyard with a wrecked E and find one off that, it's much cheaper than the $500+ part for the seat switch not to mention install. Also, do NOT buy an eBay key it's a scam, you cannot reprogram them a it's coded to the VIN - I know this has already been mentioned but definitely want to reiterate this.

As far as the HID kit, get a morimoto or CANBUS ready kit when you do. It'll be more expensive but worth it. Or, you could go the cheaper route like I did and get some DDMTuning HIDs for both low beams and fogs but remember to wire in a capacitor with this, the error eliminators won't be enough. There are a lot of threads on this.

Sounds like you have a plan bro! Can't wait to see some pics.

Very very very few people know how to reprogram an existing key to a new VIN, it's been done but I don't know how, so stay away from that. I also wouldn't completely stay away from ebay keys, as long as they're OEM keys, in good shape, and cheap, they serve as great replacement cases for when your old one starts to crack. Just swap the chip and batteries and good to go.

I've always loved the remote start mod from MidCityEngineering but I could never see myself investing up to $1500 just to start it up with my phone but that's just me. It'd be cool to see more people with that mod though.

Good luck with everything OP.

^That's true, I did order one to replace my cracked shell (make sure you never use your finger nails on the buttons that's the number one way to break them) but I meant as a replacement key itself. They will tell you that you can reprogram them but you can't. Reprogramming a key involves taking the ROM chip (it's write-once, read only memory) containing the cars information off the printed circuit board and soldering on a new one. I've looked at the PCB and it is has two main surface-mount CMOS chips but trying to get a new one on by reflow soldering it without damaging anything else would be tricky. Who knows if it would even work, they might have some type of re-loaded firmware or something on there so the IC is write-compatible with their systems.

Yeah those things are just better off left untouched. Now if someone could please shine some light on integrating a backup cam to a US spec COMAND at an affordable price, that'd be great..

Thanks for the eBay key info...I'm going to get a key from the dealer...

As for rear camera...I found this and no one has said anything about it. http://tvandnav2go.com/video-interfa...ace-w211-.html
the company claimed that the interface work with any camera that has the composite video input.
I also found out that MidCity has a device that can be used with some camera, the location I called said they prefer adding an "Alpine" Camera to the mid city interface that will connect to our "command screen".
Another option is to send the command to a company that can reprogram it, and add a video line input to it...
Each of the above options cost anywhere from $1000 to $1400...wow..
The "TVandNAVtoGO" option seems to be the cheapest way to go...

I will continue to look for a way to add this.

Yesss

AMGA..., thanks so much for that info....Now that I know its doable and for less than 50% of what I was quoted....Next step is to find out if I've got the green cable on my command....

Not so fast, keep in mind that the NTG 2.5 COMAND system are only in 2009+ E classes. For our E's from 03-08, we have NTG 1. We most likely will not have the green connector behind our units as they only appear in Euro spec COMAND or US spec if it's around MY2003. I know mine doesn't because I took it out last week.

Yeah that was what I intended to get across. I'm not sure if it's possible to mod the unit to make it compatible but our versions do not have the green cable connector or the proper firmware so it's only 2.5+ you're kind of out of luck on this one I think.

For the facelift W211 key fob it's like $389 at my dealership. Over $420 for the keyless go option.

We can but that's a $3,000-4,000 upgrade and very difficult for those with the Harmon Kardon system. I'd much prefer a $300 option for just a backup cam.

I am thinking about giving it a try, if it doesn't work I'll return it and let you know. Seems to be from Hong Kong so delivery might take some time. It's also $200-$220 elsewhere instead of $299 from that link.
