Humming Sound in Cabin
Have a 2007 E350 for a little over a year, great car! About 3 months ago took it to my indy shop to get a few things done, asked him about the humming sound and he said it was the power steering pump that need replace. Of course it would be $850 out the door. The humming is heard in the cabin mostly when idling but the higher the rpms the quitter it gets. Had a 1997 E320 that made almost the same sound but with more of a whistle to it. Have anyone experienced this before and is their instructions with pic on how to replace the p/s pump, do I have to replace the reservoir also?

If you have a 2007, you may not have SBC. I think they stopped having that system about that time? My wife's 2006 has it, my 2007 does not.
In my 2007, I have a similar RPM-dependent hum, and it comes from the blower. If I turn the blower off completely, it goes away. Drove me crazy for a while. I still don't understand why it rises and falls with engine RPM's, but it does. Doesn't seem to hurt anything and is sporadic enough that I try to ignore it.

I have never been able to get the car to make the hum when I take it in. And if I turn off the blower and then turn the blower back on, it often goes away. If it doesn't, I usually just turn the radio up some...
