My W211 won't upshift
 

Hi All,

I recently purchased a E200, 2004 model that I am fixing up. After the engine work was completed and we mananged to start the car I discovered that it only drives on first gear. There is also a small noise (knock like sound) when changing from parking to reverse, or to drive.

I presume there are no warning lights?

Your car is in limp mode.

Search these forums or Google it. Basically, your car has decided that something is very wrong and is protecting itself from further damage.

You need to have it diagnosed. If you have an OB2 scanner you can start with that, but you really need to take it to a mechanic who has a Star DAS/Xentry system.
