Wagon-what year to buy?

Wagon-what year to buy?
My old Suburban is showing its age. I thought a great alternative would be a MB wagon. Am I crazy???
What model year(s) are the most reliable and desirable? Which models should I avoid at all costs? Are the improvements in the W212 model worth the extra money I would have to pay?
Many thanks,
Andy

Owned two, I must say the 2003 and 2005 have been equally reliable. I would get as new as you can afford. E55 or E63 if you are not worried about fuel costs.

I had a Suburban and an 04 E320 W211. I love the loading capacity of the Suburban but hated the 10 mpg I got from it. I sold the Suburban and use the E320 for work. I've had a W124, W210 wagons, Audi Allroad, A6 Avant, & still have a W211 wagon and a BMW E61.
If you are going to use it for work, like I do make sure you get the dark interior. It takes me quite a bit to keep the interior looking new with the almond/tan interior. With the design that went in the wagons of MB, the rear seats not only fold flat but even the rear seats pull off for an additional 3 to 4 inches. It sure comes in handy when I have a load to carry (but it'll never fit a 4" X 8' panel like the suburban) a big loads. I have the crossbars for anything else I cannot fit inside the rear.
Hopes this helps.

My wife loves her 2008 E350 wagon. Great ride, nice handling, excellent visibility, tight turning radius ... I could go on and on. We get many compliments about this car.
