I have an 2004 E320 with airmatic suspension.

The passenger back side started to lower; the indie shop performed a diagnostic and told me that the pump was about to fail. I just replaced the pump (myself) and noticed that with the car raised (the button on near the shifter) the rear suspension does not lower at all.

This may be a case of a bad valve? or do I still need to replace the rear Shock?

I'm not using the car just in case... I do not want to replace the pump again.

If the pump was bad the other 3 would not stay up. IT only adds pressure when one is low and the only time might be if you did service on the system. I think the pump changed out was still good, *keep it* and look for leaks on the air spring at the bottom where it rolls under and flexes.

Here we go again, more noobs complaining about the complicated Airmatic system that there mechanic knows nothing about-----one would think that after the tons of BS on the airmatic produced by whining noobs that instead of simply changing parts willy nilly they would first find a shop that has DAS Xentry(factory diagnostics) and get the car diagnosed correctly---then they can purchase and install the part themselves.-----no they just whine and listen and watch for an Epiphany----very expensive approach.

PS: I would love to learn what diagnostics has the capability to pedict what is going to fail---what HS--"the pump was about to fail"--that is the first sign to remove the car!!

Thank you for your "kind" response..... I believe most of us "noobs" participate in forums to learn and share experiences in a civilized way.... maybe have a little fun while doing that and saving some money (why not?)

My mechanic does have a DAS Xentry and the pump was not charging at the pressure it is supposed to work and since it was working extra to keep the car up came the correct conclusion: "the pump is about to fail".

I'll post the results of my endeavour for the enlightenment of whoever want to read it.

If the pump can't keep up there is a very specific pressure test in DAS Xentry to locate a leak or faulty component-----surely he ran those tests--correct!!

Bringing back this old thread. I searched for my certain situation and could not find a result. Ok I have a 2004 E500 I use as a daily driver and decided to lower it again (lowered 2 years ago but since raised back up) rear is old stock air springs with no issues (knock on wood) fronts are Arnott right side is a few years old and the left is brand new. After I lowered the car using lowering links the rear stays up while the fronts lowers a lot, fenders tucks over the tires after sitting a couple of hours but goes back up after turning on the car. It never did this until I lowered it which was minimum (.5 ")

how can I test the vlve block I do not have shop equipment. only a snap on solas pro I can borrow a ross tech but was not sure if that would cover it

Well...crap. I typed up a long and detailed reply and lost it. Screw it.


Bottom line, you both need a DAS hooked up to your cars to read the diagnostic codes.


I'm going to get a beer out of the refrigerator....

I tested the system says the air is 101 psi and res is 103 so i take it that is enough pressure but then it said relief valve open so id that what is making the back not fill ? and is that the valve block? is the a seperat sensor for this thanks for any help
