LA autoshow

Did you guys see the new benz at the LA autoshow. I forget what it was called but it looked like a cross between the new CLK and the Taurus. Very disturbing.

BUT the E looked awesome. the had the platinum one on display. AND everyone wanted to sit inside. They also had a demo of the dynamic seats.

Renntech also had a display with a modded E55, new compressor and body kit. Looked pretty nice. The guy gave me a personal tour and I took lot of pics. I will post next weekend when I get a minute.

Brabus was snobby to everyone as usual. I though they would have their 6.1 car there but I didn't see it.

Yup

Yep, that's it alright. What did you think of that one? I had to do everything in my power to keep that $10 corona down. It was pretty bad. Maybe one of he ugliest cars over $40K, the Lexus not withstanding.

L.A. Auto Show Review

I took my hand and knocked on the panels of the E Classes they had at the L.A. Auto Show last Friday and they felt cheap in comparison to my parent's 95 W124 E320 Wagon. I think the wagon looks just as good as the sedan. The hatch on the wagon shut better and opened slower than the sedan's trunk. The sedan's trunk opens way too fast for my tastes.

I don't understand why we don't get the E500 Estate with rwd. I saw TONS of MBs in L.A. and there is obviously a BIG demand for them in California, Arizona, Texas, and Florida which usually have little to no snow every year except for the mountains.

The CLS looks like a mini Maybach and is a joke. Why can't MB just make a coupe and convertible based on the E Class like the W124? The CLK is just not regal enough to compete with the 6 Series. By the way, the 330Ci performance pack is also a joke. 8 to 10 grand more gets you an M3 with huge performance and lots of nice features.

The best car I saw there was a tie between the new Aston Martin DB9 and the Porsche Carrera GT.

In the aftermarket section, I saw two new Rolls-Royces with 22 or so inch wheels. I asked one man if it still had a nice ride quality that it is meant to have and he said something like "oh ya, it has a good ride." Ya RIGHT!

I can't count the number of cars I saw driving around L.A. with big cheap wheels. Excuse me, the 90s called and they want their chrome wheels back...now!

west side, the E sedan's trunk opens real fast because its aluminum which is stronger than the high strenth steel or whatever.

i also love the new GT, looks awesome!

Also,

I thought it was odd that I saw zero new E Class wagons while in L.A. from last Friday until Monday even though MBs seem to be very popular in L.A.

Its not just the E-Wagon. No one likes wagons in LA period. People drive these damned SUV everywhere. I personally will not be caught dead in one (unless you give me a free X5 )

I think you'll find more hummers in LA than wagons.

I don't really understand who that car is aimed at? I mean I heard it was suppose to go inbetween the E and the S classes. Is there that much of a difference that Mercedes had to put something in there? IMHO I think it was a bad move, but then again people just might buy it cause it's a "Benz"...my 2 cents...

He was probably referring to the CLS not the wagon.

I totally agree. I can't understand where the CLS is supposed to be slotted, and what its function is. The interior looks nice, even though it was just a cream colored version of the W211 interior, but the outside wasn't doing it for me. It may look different in person, but I just don't know.

As per the comments on the trunk, whatever the reason, the sedan's trunk flies open way too fast. And I've seen the operation of the power trunk closer, and that is also very abrupt. If you press the inside button to close the trunk, it immediately starts to close, and quick.

Reportedly the 1 byte maximum picture load problem is temporary. Its been several days though already. There is a report on the subject on the general forums thread.
