cls is basically an E-class with with a different style. It’s the same.

If you are in the USA, the SBC warranty was extended to 25 years and unlimited mileage. Dealer will replace as needed. Search as it has been discussed multiple times on this site, particularly in the W211 AMG sub-forum.

Old tale is cut a piece of black electrical tape over it. This way the annoying CEL will be invisible as well.

I now have the tool but not the car, so if anyone needs it, make me an offer!

I'm in Ontario Canada but can ship worldwide.

Owners living in the USA should know there is an extended 25 year warranty on the SBC system.

SBC recovery tool. C249F

Hello, I need some help on the recovery tool for the w211. I got the dreaded SBC error this week. The narration on the diagnostic tool is clearly the service interval has been exceeded with corresponding C249F error. I have the same error message described in the thread.
I tried applying the recovery tool but nothing happened on the instrument cluster. This is despite the red pilot lamp being on and the tool's green pilot blinking for an extended period. I did my recovery when the engine was switched on after I saw same on a YouTube video where it was successful.
1. What am I doing wrong?
2. Does the recovery tool 'expire' after a single press even if the reset was not successful or it can be applied more than once with results?
3. Does it matter if engine is running vs just ignition in 'on'position?
Would really appreciate some help.

Sounds like you was sold a bad reset tool to me. If your in the U.S. your SBC should be under warranty. I got mines replaced at absolutely no charge.

Wow...this thread bring back memories. I was trolled for using the SBC Tool. I remember my SBC was shooting two codes C249F and C2129.

I used the SBC Tool to reset C249F. Then I brought a brand new Pressure Reservoir and had a shop clear code C2129 with Star Diagnosis...

The SBC actually lasted about 4 more years afterwards. When the C249F came back that's when I used the warranty and had it replaced.

Worked in my favor it seems because I still have my W211

This helps. I thought so too. I got the recovery tool off Amazon but I live in Nairobi, Kenya. I will raise a complaint and see what happens. Might you know if the same tool can be applied multiple times vs just single use? I appreciate the response.

We get the short end of the stick with warranty issues in Africa generally. I approached my local Mercedes-Benz dealer in Nairobi about the SBC issue and why it appears different markets get different treatment as far as recalls go. They had to write to HQ in Germany to get direction which is pending. It something I feel strongly about and if it requires a class action suit to set a legal precedent on the issue in this part of the world, we will explore that.
