Purchasing EXTREMELY low mileage w211

Hey everyone-

I'm new to the W211 forum, and migrating from the W203 (CLK) area. The reason? A 17 year old kid in an F150 who rear ended me and pushed me into the car ahead. Result: no more CLK.

So, with my check from the insurance company I'm off to buy a replacement. In particular, a 2007 E350 with, get this, only 15,000 miles on it.

I'm in Florida, and this is kind of scenario is not unheard of here. We've got a lot of people with big $ and multiple homes who'll outfit each residence with a nice car to use when they're in town. I think this is the scenario with this one, which was registered in Palm Beach county and all dealer-serviced.

I did a lot to my CLK, including flushing the transmission twice, plus the usual valve gaskets/breather hoses/crank sensor/plugs & wires, etc. I'm not afraid to jump in and replace all the fluids, and that is in fact my game plan with this one. I'll do the full transmission drain, oil change, brake fluid, steering fluid, and maybe even a coolant flush despite the low miles.

My question is whether there's anything else you'd suggest that I look out for? My big fear is the head gasket, and whether it's susceptible to drying out. Battery, by the way, is new (from the dealer).

I'd appreciate your responses!

Oh, one more thing...I did run the car's VIN through the Mercedes EPC, and it's well out of range for the balance shaft problems. Phew.

I would be more worried about the balance shaft if you plan to keep the car long term. That said it would be a long way down the road.
I would be concerned about the same things a 2007 E350 with 100k on it would be such as check tires, gaskets, hoses and change all fluids.

I see you already ran the VIN good job

Yup. Balance shaft problem engines top out at 2729xx 30 468993, and this one ends in 585xxx.

You could take it to a dealer to get a PPI and grab the VMI from them. Take it to a different dealer if they won't give you the VMI. And if it was dealer serviced, some of those services might have already been done. I forget which one it is, but either crankshaft or camshaft position senors might also have been a problem. Other than that, they have their normal set of problems. There's also some thread around about burning a DVD with the 2015 Nav on it.

If it's one of those garage queen cars, I'd agree with samaritrey and check everything. A lot of parts can go bad from just sitting there.

Have you looked at the carfax yet? Get the car inspected regardless because I've seen low mileage cars sold with no accident history get sold, yet when you take a look at some section, you can clearly see the paint in an entire area differ slightly under the sun, indicating accidents.

Thanks, guys. That extremely low mileage (15,000 on a 2007) car was sold out from under me, so I went with my second choice. This one had 32k miles, one owner, no accident history, a clean carfax, and the dealer called it mint. It looks and smells new. The previous owner traded it in on a brand new one.

White exterior/black & tan interior, and both P1 and P2 packages. The keyless go is some cool sh*t. Motor number on this one is also in the mid 5's, so I feel good about avoiding a balance shaft problem.

I had to fight off two other people who were lined up behind me to buy it. Former owner lived at a famous Florida retirement community that probably advertises on TV near you.

That's a nice one, looks like you also got real leather instead of MB-Tex. The ruffles in the side door indicates real leather, if it was smooth, it'd be MB-Tex. Did you set up an epcnet account to see what option codes you have? Doesn't look like you got parktronic, but getting P2 is nice, not too many out there. On a dark road when you wiggle the steering wheel left/right, you'll see the headlights move back and forth.

Thanks!

Yes, I've been on the EPC for six months or so, and I've been pulling data cards on all the cars I was considering.

This one IS the Amaretta/Leather/Nappa/Semi-Aniline-Beige, so no MB Tex. I did have the MB Tex on my 98 E300 TD, and it was fine. Still looked new at 250K miles. My CLK supposedly had leather, but they were the air conditioned seats with the holes in them. Those looked perfect still at 150k miles.

I'm looking forward to the active headlights!

I don't see parktronic listed, and the data card doesn't show packages, but I do have the SA code 600 for headlamps cleaning equipment, 615 for Bi-Xenon and active curvelight, and 889 for keyless go. It's also got the Sirius radio and navigation.

Parktronic would be 220. You'd also have the circles in the front and rear bumper plus an off switch next to the shifter. P1, the navigation, rear sunshade and Sirius is pretty standard. Haven't seen too many that didn't have it. Fold down rear seats is 287, power trunk closer is 881 or 887, something like that. Is it wired for bluetooth? Ipod? I've seen a few with wooden steering wheels, but I would think that it'd be easier to drive with a regular steering wheel, wood would be too hard.

You want believe how much you'll end up liking keyless go. I never would have ordered that option but my CPO came with it and now I don't think I could live without it.

Man, I don't have power trunk closing, fold down seats, or Parktronic. Where can I unload this piece of sh*t?

Ha! That was a short honeymoon. Same thing with me, took me 6 months to find one that was loaded. I really just wanted P2, the folding rear seats and the power trunk closer but ended up getting one that parktronic, panorama roof and real leather also. Probably like one in 50-100 had those. I was going to travel to get one, but waited too long on a couple and then got lucky and had one that was close to me. Bought it after it was only on the market for 3 days. P2 is really the best though, love using keyless go although it has it quirks, one of the door handles lock button doesn't always work. It's nice to just walk up to the car, press the button under handle and hop right in. Also it's fun watching the lights turn on, I like the little dance that they do. Oh and you should test to see if the headlamp washers work. Headlights on, 5 squirts of the windshield washer fluid if you don't have a switch.

Nice! I didn't know how to work the headlight washers, and now I do thanks to you.

Yes, I would have liked to find one with everything, but given that I had been rear-ended and totaled in my CLK I didn't have the luxury of time. I had 8 cars picked out statewide here in FL, and 2 days later when I had time to go buy I discovered that 6 of 8 had JUST been sold.

Frankly I would have preferred a regular tan interior, and would have liked the panorama roof. However, the 2-tone interior is growing on me.

I think earlier models had a switch for it, but then they got rid of it in cost cutting. If you go to Mercedes website and download the manual, it might also mention how to program the side mirror mirror to dip down when you put it into reverse, but it's disabled on my year, not sure if it's also disabled on yours, but it's still mentioned in the manual.

As for disappearing cars, that seems quite normal, when I first started looking, there were many cars that were listed, but if you call, you find out they were just sold, but then I'd still see them listed for weeks afterwards. After a while, I only called the new ones that popped up. After I bought mine, I still saw my car listed for another 2 weeks.

I have the same color leather. Did you get the ipod cable in the glove box? I got a 4th gen ipod touch from the apple store as a refurb, but doing it now, I'd probably just get one from cowboom.com, it's a best buy store. They range from $40-$60 depending if they have a sale. I load spotify on it and it automatically downloads my playlists when there's wifi. Mine was wired for bluetooth but didn't come with the puck in the center console, I ended up buying the bluetooth puck on ebay, seems to work fine.

Interesting...I was wondering about the bluetooth. Mine does have the telephone puck. I haven't looked for the aux in connection in the glovebox, but supposedly it's there. I installed that in my old CLK, and it was a ten minute job, so i figure that must be an option if mine doesn't have it. So far I've just been playing MP3 CDs.

I've got four or five iPods lying around, so all good there.

Oh, by the way, my car does have the headlight washer switch. I made the mistake of standing outside the car and hitting the button. Yup, the headlight washers work...maybe too well!

If you have the ipod cable, the aux doesn't work. I like using the ipod because the song playing shows up in the dash and you can go forward and backward with it.

If you have the bluetooth puck, then pairing is pretty straightforward, the code is MBUSA or 63872.

I actually haven't seen my headlamp washers work, I've just seen the over spray when it goes over onto the hood so I know it works. Actually used it a few times this winter when driving in bad weather.
