ESP Inoperative message
I have an 08 E350 4matic wagon with 85K miles. The ESP inoperative message appears consistently after the car has been idling for more than 3 minutes. Restarting the car eliminates the message. Anyone ever see this before or have a clue of what is going on before I take it to my mechanic?

I haven't this problem personally, but from what I've read around here, it seems like you may have a steering angle sensor fault. Does your cruise control also not work?
Read around the forums for steering angle sensor and see if it sounds like the problem you're having.

If the steering angle sensor needs to be reset, try turning the wheel hard over to hard over and then back to the middle.
I ultimately had my sensor replaced, and then some time later the light came on again. I took it back, expecting a bad replacement part, but found that this time it was the infamous brake stop light switch-that surprised me.

+1 on Plutoe's comment. The W210 has 50 diagnostic fault codes for the ESP. I haven't counted the number on the W211 but assume it is similar.
Run the diagnostic test with proper equipment.

I just replaced the steering angle sensor in my E550.
Fixed my problem but I did not replace it until my mechanic checked the trouble codes.
If it comes to that, I can walk you through it. I should have made a video but I had it out and in within 20 minutes.
