Mercedes are Garbage, Low Profile Tires are Bad Engineering

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...438d4e8adb.png

This genius is at it again, apparently we are all idiots for driving used Mercedes that are good for nothing more than being lawn ornaments. We should learn to be more like him and drive a 20 year old Celica and then brag about how you have a million dollars in the bank. He makes some valid points, but going so far as to say low profile tires is a result of bad Mercedes engineering is a joke. Also, I CAN'T STOP YELLING WHEN I TALK. MY NEIGHBORS LOVE ME YELLING LIKE AN IDIOT IN MY DRIVEWAY. A FEW POINTS I MADE IN THE COMMENTS SECTION:

1. What car doesn't have a TCU these days? Most modern cars have modules and electronic systems for everything, especially now that electronic stability program and TPMS is mandated. As newer Toyotas have gotten more complex, they've had more issues
2. You can get aftermarket Arnott struts for Mercedes for much less, lifetime warranty
3. Brake pads should not be eating into the rotor like that, and I've personally never seen that issue on a Mercedes with uneven rotor wear unless there was another issue, they usually last 3-4 pad cycles as with any car
4. You're an idiot if lug nuts are "designed retarded" it takes a special person to completely destroy a wheel when the lug nuts are recessed, use proper tools. And how is this a Mercedes/German car issue only?
5. How in the **** is a low profile tire "bad design" or engineering, if you can't drive you will curb a wheel, and most newer cars that are sedans or compacts have low pros anyway.
6. A Michelin all season pilot sport a/s is a racing tire to you? Get real, r-compound and extreme performance summer tires are race tires.
7. Tons of frameless windowed cars/coupes have the window closing feature, not just Mercedes or Germans. Can't remember the last time I saw one of those motors that failed.
8. Why does it say CLS550 but appear to have the M113 under the hood? It looks a lot more like a CLS500 than a CLS550, he says it is a CLS550 but has 16 spark plugs!? Not in the M273 buddy
9. In another video, he says an Arnott air strut is $1200, which is just plain false

He is giving his viewers what they want and he is obviously stuck in the days of no computers in cars.

cetialpha5 07-02-2015 12:07 PM

I've seen them before. The only good thing about him is that he drives potential owners away so they're cheap to buy on the used market. Had mine for almost a year and still haven't had to go the dealer yet for repairs although I've got a lot of upcoming maintenance to do which I will get done at an indy.

LOL he's so bitter and hateful.

This is my new hero, it is no longer Al Gore, it's this guy!!!

funkle 07-03-2015 09:54 AM

I think this guy just tries a little to hard to find inflammatory things to say. In one of the vids, he shouts "why on earth would anyone want the computer to throw fault codes for a blown lamp in the trunk?" Um, so you'd know it needed to be replaced? Sounds like good engineering to me.

Perhaps we should just use the data from True Delta on Reliability reports or Consumer Reports, to get out the movie making magic and deal with facts and repairs / mile in repair cost vs other brands. My 2012 300C 5.7 hemi has more power, runs on 89 octane, and at 32,000 miles has had only the cruise button replaced. My E500 by the same miles had tires, brakes, ignition switch, cig lighter and that was just the beginning. So why not just use some data.

You'd have to compare a 2003 E500 to a similar vintage. At that time Mercedes was part of Chrysler and QC suffered, once the split up, things got better. Try comparing a 2012 to a 2012, I think in 2012, they went with direct injection in W212 which had more hp and better gas mileage. With all cars, certain years are better than other and certain options have more problems than others.

this guy is the Jangy of auto repair

Well I believe it was Mercedes that bought Chrysler and it was referred to as a merger of equals so I suppose you could say Mercedes was a part of Chrysler or Chrysler was a part of Mercedes. But in 2007 Mercedes sold off Chrysler so I guess you could make the case that Chrysler was really a part of Mercedes.

TektiteE55 07-05-2015 12:46 PM

I hate seeing the word Chrysler on my benz

beejAMG 07-05-2015 10:07 PM

try googling R170 SLK and Chrysler Spitfire. they share the same exact interior since Chrysler was under mercedes that time.

PeterUbers 07-06-2015 12:07 AM

Also the Chrysler 300 shared the chassis and some parts with the E class at that time

AMGAffalterbach 07-06-2015 05:52 AM

Yeah no one doubts DaimlerChrysler was a thing but that scotty kilmer is off his rocker. What German car from that era didn't have those issues. He's disingenuous at best. Incorrectly badged car. Cut footage. Lying about prices of parts.

Off his rocker? In this day and age when journalism is dead, and the "news" has become nothing more than "the media", it looks to me like he is doing very well spouting sound bites to garner attention and sell advertising. You don't seriously think he cares about anything he says other than to promote his YT channel and make money do you!?!?!
:puke:

It was called a merger of equals by the Germans to keep the American public from freaking out over the loss of one of the last remaining US auto makers. Make no mistake about it Mercedes bought Chrysler.

not really. The 300c platform was from the w210, which ended production in 2002.

Guys, chrysler didn't influence Mercedes in the way you think. There are not chrysler parts on your cars.

it was an era of cost cutting, environmental changes (lighter weight), and a greater focus on technology that caused issues with some of the cars in the era.

This merger with chrysler was a balls up disaster and really benefited only chrysler.

Crossfire was even built in Germany

AMGAffalterbach 07-08-2015 09:26 PM

The way I see it, everything from the W210 chassis in the 300c and the 722.6 transmission used in SRT products, and the Chrysler Crossfire, Mercedes trickled down more technology to Chrysler, whereas Chrysler really didn't give much in return.

HD Rider 07-09-2015 12:34 AM

I see no reason to bash anyone's brand of choice.
If he is in fact a mechanic, it's just bad for business.
Also; If he is so in love with Toyota products, maybe he should compare Mercedes with Lexus.
I could pick this idiot's remarks apart but what is the point? He would still be an idiot.

Reality Check

You should find the following link hilariously informative and cathartic.

Here's a snippet "...there are certain outlets that give advice on certain automotive topics, namely the popular Scotty Kilmer channel, that you should take with a nearly lethal dosage of salt".

Enjoy. :)
