CD player doesn't work 2004 e500
 

Hi guys, I just bought a 2004 E500 and unfortunately the cd player does not seem to be working properly, so I'm hoping someone might know what is wrong and what my options are. I have searched for similar issues but have not seen my exact problem described.

I have the audio 20 system, not the fancy COMAND system. I also don't have the cd changer.

The problem with the cd player is that it sometimes does not recognize that there is a cd inserted. It will suck the cd in, but then say no disc (this has been tested with several real, not burned cds). Sometimes it does recognize that a cd has been inserted, but it just won't play. If I get really lucky, the cd will sometimes actually play, but it always says the cd has only one track. While the cd is playing, it may skip frequently or stop playing all together. Once the end of track 1 is reached, it almost always stops playing. But a few times I have heard it actually start playing track 2, though it still displays track 1 on the screen.

So, what seems to be wrong? Has anyone solved this issue before? I'm thinking my best bet might be to try to just get a cd changer installed and forget about the single disc cd player... how much would that cost?

Have you tried a cd lens cleaner yet? When I first got my w211 I had to use one to get the single disc working. If that doesn't work just add the cd changer should be able to do it on the cheap if you find the changer with motorized assembly on ebay.

Thanks for your reply. I haven't tried a lens cleaner yet. Definitely seems like its worth a shot. Would you recommend any particular brand?

Can't say i can I just went on amazon and found one with good reviews.
