But you can pressure bleed the system manually, you are saying there is more involved I presume??
What would happen if you just deactivated SBC, change pump, and bleed manually to get out air???

HHAHA my first rule of DIYing is to make sure someone has successfully done it before.
Especially if the SBC part is going to cost over a grand.

thats why I wouldn’t go for a try on a sbc unit, maybe the star codes the sbc on the installation procedure, who knows if or not or what else.

SBC pump threads

Take care with the very soft and fragile aluminum threads on the SBC unit. Replacing my unit today and managed to strip one of the threads on the unit it took very little force for the thread to strip.

Will be re tapping the thread.

Yeah, I was so worried about that when I did mine. They look way to fragile for something so expensive.

I guess a mini update since doing this, the SBC is still fully functional, as of right now still have the Dell D630 I installed a PNY SSD. Could not be happier with that setup, if you own Star tool C3 or C4 and you paired it with a Laptop really consider changing to SSD more then doubled the speed for communicating in settings. Also anyone looking into buying a Star tool, get the C4 over the C3, unless you plan to work on older Mercedes the C3 is pretty much maxed out on any vehicle made after 2015. Otherwise known as the last Windows XP update before switching to new Windows OS

Well I got my letter from Mercedes saying that my Vehicle qualifies for the 25 year SBC warranty. It says they will reimburse owners who have had the repair done, I wonder if they will reimburse me?

No law allows for your own labor reimbursement.
If that makes you feel better, I build new house and could not deduct about $1/2 mil of my labor when I sold it. Still legitimate material cost will qualify.

Might as well try to submit the paperwork for a refund, even if I don't get paid for my time but I got reimbursed for the part I would be happy.

cdiJeff, in the warranty coverage letter I got. the had it bold letters "repairs performed by a non-Mercedes-Benz dealership may/might not be reimbursed". But it never hurts to try.

When you ask for the letter?
How you ask for it?
What country?
Can I get this letter to call mb international to see what they can do for me.

I know that in some countries it was from 10 to 15 years from a legal recall. But in my country that doesn’t apply. If it is extended to 25 years I’ll try to get mine in.

My reimbursement just got approved.

I ordered the SBC pump two years ago from FCP Euro and finally got around to installing it last year by myself. My nearest dealership closed its doors last spring, so I have absolutely no other dealership within 75 miles of my house that I have any relationship with. I called the two closest dealerships and started asking about how to get compensated once I received my letter. One dealership was difficult in that they needed me to drive the car to them for proof of the repair. The other let me do everything over email and it took about two weeks to get the approval email today. The SBC was covered in full, while obviously my labor was not.

I am more than satisfied.

Next update, never heard back from the manager, called another Mercedes dealership in the area. They told me to bring down the car and paperwork for the recall.
Filed out the paperwork that said I repaired the car myself and bought my own SBC, was in an out in about 15 min.
Now I just wait to see if I get approved from MB-USA, was told the wait time for the check is 2-3 weeks.
Ill give a final update if I get a check.

Well good news everyone final update, I got a cheque from MB-USA for the SBC.
A bitter sweet moment as this write-up is pretty much going to be dead until the 25 year extended warranty expires.
Hopefully this write-up will still be helpful to someone when the time comes.

Congrats. I'm sure there will be a necropost in about 9 years when the 2003's are out of their 25 year warranty. But I've seen people resurrect posts older than that.

hi, i have a question,

i recently bought a new sbc pump, my mechanic tried to install it, and start bleeding procedure,

he stopped and said that the (new) sbc pump is not working.
pump has no sound, just clicking sound.
my question is:

1. Should a new sbc pump needs programming and be married to the car in order to run?
2. should i hear the pump sound right away after installing and starting the car?

I am getting no fault codes under sbc pump whatsoever htats why we are puzzled.
and also im not sure if he programs it already, before running it in the star diagnosis, he didnt deactivate the original sbc(brokern sbc pump) and proceed to removing it right away. then install new one and proceed with the bleeding. i have no errors , (it just said: pump start not inhibited).

car: w211 E200 K0mpressor 2006

thanks guys.

To my knowledge the SBC has to be deactivated swapped then activated, since I think these get vin/code locked.
That is the reason you why you can't use a used or a junkyard SBC.
From your message it dose not seem that your mechanic deactivated your old one, then they probably haven't activated your new one.
That is the reason for the computer that runs Xentry to do all this in my case it was the Dell D630 with the C3.
The fastest way to tell if its activated would be just try to start and more the car out of park.
If you have a red brake error message they didn't do it right. Otherwise you can follow my write-up and check the pedal counter as well as the pump cycle life to see if it a really low number.
You can't really go off by noise since the new pump will probably be quieter since they are rebuilt to a higher standard then when they were made.
If your mechanic just pulled the SBC without deactivating it they probably need to put it back in then deactivate it, then swap the new one in.
I haven't done it out of sequence so I have no idea what will happen if you just take it out and try to put a new one in.
You really need to check Xentry, to do this without any of that information I can't really help without that information.

1.) Hi, does this mean that i cannot use or install the new SBC pump because it was preowned? do i have to program it?

2.) my new sbc, after installing it gets hot and i can hear clicking sound, does this mean it is active and working?

1. When you say new do you mean brand new / rebuilt from Bosch since you can't buy these new? Or was this taken from another vehicle then just swapped in?

If its used probably not, unless it was properly deactivated from the vehicle it came from then activated in yours but even then I can't prove that and I doubt anyone on this forum has done it that way.
Also I don't know what model pump numbers work with what vehicles, that I found out through a vin match. Last a used pump you are kinda gambling with how long it will last.

2. Mine does not get hot and doesn't make a clicking noise more of a humming noise from it building pressure.

3. I really have no idea other then the if your not getting any faults its probably a mechanical issue or software based that can't be seen without Xentry/Star.
