My E320 (Bluetec) is blowing F57.. narrowed down to this..HELP!
Unable to start or turnover. Electric Radiator fan kicks off like it wants to leave without the car.
Found f57 (25 AMP) popped. Replaced..popped..replaced popped.
Tried my OBD2 reader, nothing..error.
Started digging/researching, finally went to my indie shop, he shared the diagram showing what fed off F57..
Of course my ECU (without power, won't talk to anything) is on it as is the relay that kicks on the fan (by design).
Indie said new ECU...about $2k. Ouch!!
I got into my ECU (what more damage can I do....hehe...indie says it's toast..WTH). Everything looked fine, no shorts, not charred pieces, looked fine.
Traced 12V in and outs (without pinouts it's time consuming). Traced 12 V feed/line that is going to 'shorted' device. What is this?
I put a 100Watt 12 light in series. Lights up real bright (short still there).
But at least now I can talk to ECU and it gives me some codes, which I think are from my leaving some sensors disconnected.
I trace the blue wire and it goes to AC compressor.. (I have a fox/hound toner), I'm going to trace the RED wire next, it would be nice if someone knew what the connector is for.
It sits right on top of the ECU and is well sealed. I'm attaching a picture and the RED line that is going to whatever is shorted.
I think if I find my short, I can try to start the car.
With the line open...engine will NOT turn over.
Any ideas?...anyone.......anyone........Buller?
Cheers

Good job on the troubleshooting.
My Chevy duramax lost it's AC and glow plug indicator last summer. Careful troubleshooting and schematic studying led me to the void beneath the fuse box where a mouse had set up shop. Apparently, the green and blue wires taste better than the rest. Fixed the wires, good to go.
Had to get a contractor to cover the hole they gnawed at the eave. I started the put on my Bill Murray hat and start to scheme how to be rid of these guys.
