Looking to buy a 2007 E63 AMG with 85K Miles
Hello everyone,
I'm new to forums and new to Mercedes in general. I'm looking at getting a 2007 E63 AMG with 85k miles on it for approx. 17K but I'm going to drive a hard bargain and try to get it down 16k or even less. Who knows.
Clean carfax, no accidents, southern states its whole life so most likely no rust issue from road salt. I haven't gone to take a look at the car or done a pre purchase inspection yet because I'm still gathering knowledge and doing research. I also plan to see if I can get a dealership to pull the service history for me.
I've read a ton of different things here on the forums about this car from the "stay away" engine grenade head bolt issue discussions all the way to other side of the spectrum where people absolutely love their E63 and have never had any issues.
Right now I'm not intending to get an extended warranty on the car because the price on those are really high. I got one quote from Fidelity Warranty that was $4,000 for two years.
So what do you guys think? Do it, or stupid move?
If you think its a good move, what should I be looking for specifically in the vehicle and what should I absolutely check for?

If you buy it get a warranty. I love mine but I am getting the valve cover replaced under warranty and the cover is on back order for a month and parts and labor at the dealer will be about $1000.00. My Pano roof stuck and repair was 900.00. So in two years my warranty has paid out nearly 3000.00. I have another 2 years of warranty which cost me about 4200.00. When you get a warranty shop a lot and do your homework on the company also go for one that covers the electronics, ac, charging system, drive train, and suspension. I wish my two Mercedes were as reliable as my Genesis.

Seems like pretty good deal, but the maint is what will hurt you in the long run.

Make sure you ask for a coolant system overnight pressure test if head bolts are still the originals (Not included in a std PPI of course). Easiest way to make sure they are not selling you a car with a leaking head gasket, and make no mistake some people are.
