Idler pulley and belt replacement
Hey guys how is it going I am planning on changing the idler pulley on my e350 because it's fairly loud and while I'm there the belt also I have been looking for a video on how to do it, but no dice , if any body would know that be great.
Also as some of you know about the fuel tank replacement I'm getting underwarranty, parts should be arriving tomorrow.

I was just going to get a belt kit from rockauto.com. About $120 for the tensioner, belt and both pulleys. I think if you get them individually, it's a lot more. There are many threads about the tensioner going too so while you have it apart, you mind as well do them all.

It's simple. You'll have a nut at the bottom of the tensioner used for releasing the tension form the belt. It's either a 15mm or 17mm - just use it on a johnson bar to take the pressure off the belt - it's spring loaded.
Then it's just bolt off/bolt on.
Then it's just bolt off/bolt on.

You can get parts for Amazon also. Gates makes high quality OEM and aftermarket belts.
I believe this is the tensioner you need:
The belt:
And the idler:
Please confirm they are the right ones. I just guessed a model year of 2008 or 2009

The rockauto kit is $120.79 plus shipping minus their 5% discount code found on retailmenot. It does have a 2 year warranty but my past experience with them is that you have to pay to send it back and they ship you a new one free.
http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo....440485&jsn=394
Also once you apply the discount code and factor in shipping, I get a total of $73.24 on rockauto and it's $75.61 on Amazon for the Gates tensioner.

My experience with rockauto is that they ship you the wrong part and then tell you it's your fault. Then you have to pay return shipping plus they don't refund the original shipping.
I gave up on them.

The suppliers change often and only autohousaz is still around for long time.
I've been using AH for more than a decade and liked the choices, when for critical parts I choose OEM, while for non-crucial part don't mind save money on aftermarket.
Never had bad experience and only once had to ship damaged part back.
Till last year I bought boots for front axles and the only AH had for W211 were plain unusable. They refunded all the money thought.
Talking about idler pulleys and tensioner, I drove SEVERAL MB with 300,000 miles and factory pulleys. At some point in last decade MB start using bearings that fail very often (wait a minute, didn't vacuum pumps on W124 had the same problem? )
Anyway, good bearing should be a lifetime item on those cars, so I generally object replacing 1/2 of the engine preemptively.
Our idler pulley gave up at 160,000 miles and I did not replace tensioner. Wanted to save money on line, but local dealer price was only $5 more and I had the car back on the road in 2hr.

I went ahead and got the complete kit from Rockauto. Worked out to be a little less than $120 after using the 5% discount code as shipping was just $8, also threw in a set of spark plugs. I'd just get the kit, then you'd have a spare belt.

How is CONTITECH ADK0012P working for you so far? Thanks

I just did this a month ago on my 08 w211 e550.
I followed the instructions shown in the video and used the Ina/Mercedes OE kit found at fcpeuro.
The belt is Mercedes branded made by Gates, and it came with a new tensioner pulley and two idlers made by Ina. All in a prepackaged kit.

I'm sure the Conti belt is good, but I wanted the genuine belt and it wasn't a huge price difference.

Well it's been over two years and I guess it's been fine, no issues so far nor do I expect any.
I suppose if you're going to keep it a long time, it might be worth the extra $30+ to get the one from Fcpeuro for the lifetime warranty, the Continental kit only came with a 2 year warranty which I guess is expired now.

I replace two idler pulleys and serpentine belt on my '09 E350 with 90,000 miles. The pulley and spring on the tensioner seemed OK so I left it as is. Started her up and the new belt squeaked like crazy as it went around the tensioner.
Belt alignment was perfect. Did some searching and pretty much everyone said to replace the tensioner. The Gates branded one from Amazon was an exact match for the one on the car (it was a Gates that was factory installed).
Success - squeak disappeared.
