2006 E500 4matic Sedan
Humming noise
Hi Folks, I have an 2006 E500 with 150,000 miles making a humming noise. Appears to be from rear end and increases in volume and pitch with speed above 20 mph. I have inspected drive shaft and found very little play between diff and front u joint. Axles have no play, no noise and boots are intact. I installed new rear wheel bearings still humming. Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks.

I have an '03 E500. I have had a similar issue for quite some time. Mine sounds very much like a tuning fork (almost like a monotone hum), but i don't hear mine unless I am right at 70 mph. If I move the gas pedal even the slightest (let off or press more) the sound goes away. I was wondering if it might have something to do with the aerodynamics at that speed, but I am not sure why it is at 20 mph in your case.

I have the same issue with my 2003 E500 178k miles.
I have a 'whine' (prob same your hummmm) right at 50mph when costing on level ground, any engine brake or accel makes it go away. Also have a vibration at 20mph when hard acceleration.
So far I think the flex disc, seal or new fluid is needed but I haven't lifted it to check. Will stay tuned here in case anyone else has some ideas.
