Just Finished The First Week With First Mercedes

Well it's been one week now on are first Mercedes, a 2003 E320, desert silver metallic, with cream interior with 66000 miles. Have put on about 300 miles, freeway, city, and over the mountain, and so far it is running great, the hardest thing so far is learning all the options. Things I've learned so far, I hate the cream interior, it's beautiful, but shows every mark, oh well I bought it for a second car for the wife. The driver's door has the famous machine gun lock that annoyed the wife, after some research I see it is from a broken spring in the door lock actuator, found some YouTube quick fixes, of sticking a paper clip or tooth pick in the lock knob hole, but that looks so cheesy, I took the knob off and wrapped piece of masking tape on the lower part of the knob, not to thick and needs to stick above the plastic guide in the door panel, good thing is you can find tape in colors to match the knob, until we can get around to doing the permanent fix 2 or 3 years down the road.

One thing I have noticed and it may not be a problem at all is when you let off of the gas there is what feels like a drag or slowing of the vehicle, as if the brakes were hanging up slightly, they are not because if you put the transmission in neutral it goes away. I notice it more at slow speeds and only when removing my foot from the gas pedal, is this normal for this transmission maybe to slow the vehicle down so not as much braking effort is required?

Thanks for any information on this one.

If you remove your foot from the accelerator quickly, the car anticipates the need to make a quick stop and will slightly activate the brake system to remove the gap from between the pads and the rotors. Could this be what you're feeling or does the dragging happen even with a slow release of the gas pedal?

Could it just be engine braking at a level you've not felt in any other car?

I think you are right, it seems to be a lot less noticeable when I slowly remove my foot from the gas, looks like I'll need to spend some time learning how the vehicle operates.

Thanks for the information
