2011 E350 Windshield Replacement
Need some help. I had Safelite replace my windshield. $1100! A very professional, nice guy seemed to have done a thorough job. When I got in the next day the wipers wouldn't work (rain sensor equipped). I called him and he came with a coworker and spent the better part of the day taking it back out and putting it back in trying to figure it out but couldn't. So he had me take it to the dealer. They easily fixed the wipers, not even sure what the issue was. But they said that when he'd installed the cowling, it didn't seal. Wanted to charge me $1300 to have a new windshield and cowling installed. Said he couldn't just install a new cowling. He told me that if I didn't replace it, rain and water from car washes would get in between the cowling and windshield and lead into the transmission. He said that just below the windshield was an opening to the transmission to let it "breathe". Am I getting yanked around or is this a legitimate problem. He said it was common but I can't find anything on the web about such an issue. Would love some help from anyone that knows what they are talking about. Thanks in advance.
