Place your bets, Gentlemen
2006 E350 4matic. 121k miles. Totally died on me this morning. Engine cranks, but will not start/run. It's getting towed to the shop as we speak.
So, I'm taking a quick poll just for fun. Place your bets:
1. CPS (Crank Shaft Position Sensor) - this is my vote
2. Fuel Pump - yikes ... hope not.
3. Other?
c'mon ... it's gotta be the CPS, right? oh well ... I'll follow up expost-facto.

Pump.
Is tachometer moving during cranking? CPS does not die on cold engine.
I still have 2 of CPS I bought spare for Mercedeses I no longer own.

Indy shop just called ...
and the winner is ...
both. CPS was bad .... connector was completely disintegrated. so replacing connector along with CPS. After the CPS test good ... the fuel pump went. boom.
good stuff ... good stuff. so at the end of the day ... new CPS, new CPS connector/wiring (apparently that's a kit you can buy?) and .. new fuel pump.
So the real question is .... does the new 15 yr Fuel Tank warranty cover my Indy doing the fuel pump? or do I even wanna go there....

Once again, Konigstiger nails it. I'd like to take that document straight to my MD dealer ... even if they don't cooperate, it'll be worth it to see the look on the Service Mgr's face when I ask him for $500.00 reimbursement.

Update: Denied by local MB dealer (MB of Wilmington, DE). Nice conversation. Service Mgr was extremely polite and civil. He was familiar with both of the letters (the general warranty one ... and the now famous Konigstiger service Damage Code 47081 letter. No dice. He indicated that MBUSA had already denied 3 separate 'claims' from his service dept for my exact situation, i.e., fuel pump replaced by indy. So he wasn't biting. We parted as friends. Hey, it was worth a shot. I appreciate the support from those on this thread/forum. Bottom line ... if you are a member of the W211 3/4 tank club ... go to the gas station, fill it up to the brim ... and if it smells, leaks ... MB will replace everything (tank, pump, filter, seal, etc) no questions asked.
Thanks, all.
Thanks, all.

Our Bay Area member had fuel pump replaced by indy about a year ago (bought at the dealer) and he got reimbursed for the pump, when they supply him with new tank.
