2005 E500 Running rough smells like gas
Old owner must have been dealing with this issue when the tax man came to collect for late taxes and gave up the car.
Moved to a fuel delivery problem, hooked up the pressure gauge and it was at zero. Cranked the car and the pressure finally came up to 60 PSI and started but then would bleed down in 5 minutes to zero again.
Figure it was a fuel regulator/pump/ filter (all one unit after some research). Lifted the back seat removed the covers an voila a gasoline swimming pool.
The plastic elbow where the fuel line connects is cracked. Causing the pressure to bleed off and blow gas out.
I have ordered a new one from Autohaus for $175 plus $12 for a new seal. Hopefully this fixes it cause I really like this car.
Experience Tip:
Spend $40 and get a fuel pressure gauge if you don't have one.

Go to a dealer and complain about fuel smell, what will get you whole new tank/pump assembly.
Before posting here do a search and you will find recall notes.
