Plasti Dipped my 07 E550 Rims and Badges

Had a guy come out to my house to do this. It took an hour and 9 coats. 6 coats are Black and 3 were Glosifier. The finish in person is in between Gloss and Satin. Overall looked super easy to do, just hoping it lasts a couple of years.

Doesn't look too bad. I did my Expedition a couple years ago minus the glossifier. They're not holding up all that well but they weren't in great shape to begin with.

Did he remove the wheels? If not, how did he mask them?

Hi did not remove them put a plastic bag behind the wheels. Used tire shine on the tires and sprayed it. It came off the tires easy. I cleaned them up pretty good before he came. I wanted the Glosifier so it can add a bit to it's longevity.

I did the plastic bag thing with the Expedition. I didn't know about the tire shine trick and it was a nightmare trying to peel all the dip of the tires. Some of it (especially where there is raised text on the tire) is still on there.

Ya the tire shine helped and nothing stuck to the tires as a result. I wasn't expecting much to be honest. The guy had really good reviews and when he came he knew his stuff. He had the black plast dip in hot water so it can spray out smoother coat. He made it look super easy. I was like, I should've just done it myself but for $140 to me it was just better to give him the money. I honestly wanted initially just clear sprayed on the rims because the original clear was coming off and it was tough to clean the rims since when I tried wiping them down the dirt would just smear and not come off. I'm hoping at least it's easier to clean now. I'm gonna let the car sit for a couple of days in the sun and let the wheels bake in the heat so the plasti dip dries fully and sticks better to the rims. I'm hoping atleast

Looks good now and please report back in a year?
On such jobs 90% of success is preparation job and doesn't look like too much happen here.

Yes for sure if I need to, I'll re spray after watching him do it, it seemed very easy. I would do it myself. It goes on thick enough that having it run is really hard to do. The Glosifier is thinner but if you don't over do it and get impatient you'll be just fine.

Why does your front brake rotor look like a corrugated tin can?
Also: What effect will changing the tires on the rims have on the plasti dip? It looks like the lug nuts are covered too. Will your lug wrench still fit if you have a flat?
Gotta agree with Kaji on this one. For ANY surface treatment, prep is key. Contaminated rims (oil, dirt, grease, etc.) won't hold that dip long and if the guy was only there for an hour and sprayed 9 coats, he sure didn't spend much time on prep...

The wrench will fit on, as far as the rotors I noticed that as well not sure why they look like that cars braking is great but it does look weird. My tires are brand new so hopefully I won't change them for a while. I thought about that as well he said you shouldn't have issues changing tires but if I do he will re spray the wheel for $10.

Ive always loved those wheels. Your rotors do look a bit funky though unless its just the camera.

I was actually sell them and buy 19" rims but I wanted in the end to keep stock wheels and for being 18's due to the design it doesn't look too small. Ya the rotors for sure look funky i have never seen rotors look like that but the car brakes really well, just strange.

You should peel the plasti dip off the centre caps. Clean look tho. Nice E550
