Drive line is coming out this weekend

Has anyone done this without removing the exhaust? It looks like I can just drop the mufflers down and let them hang. The rubber holding the center bearing looks worn so it's all got to come out for an overhaul.

Don't think bell housing will fit through exhaust. Driveshaft isn't leaving vehicle unless rear AT LEAST portion of exhaust is removed.... removing exhaust is simple. And it makes for a lot easier work with it removed.

Bell housing? Not sure what your talking about, I'm just pulling the drive shaft. The clamps on the end of the resonator are too rusty, if I disturb them they would have to be replaced, and the don't come off. The pipes are flared after the flanges are put on. Not sure how to deal with that. I'm betting the dealer would replace the whole exhaust for about 5k. Not going there.

Did you check youtube?
I bet you will find lot of pictorial on flex disk replacement, what make about 75% of the job your are attempting.
With lack of W211 pictorials, I would check W210

Good idea, thanks. I will.

No, I'm replacing the center support and it's bearing. You tube isn't helping, but a friend told me about some 2 piece flanges I might be able to use if the exhaust must come out.

i'm slightly confused.... Why not remove exhaust as complete unit instead of separating it? That way you don't have to worry about anything breaking/or needing replacement!

This is for W210, but should give you some tips
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/atta...-mount-bearing
You need to download the file and then open it.

As mentioned, remove the entire exhaust. Unbolt it up by the transmission and have someone help you pull it down and out. Will make life much easier.

I'll take another look at it, but mine is different than those pictures.
