Brake problems
 

Got the red warning message on the dash yesterday. Turned out to be a bad brake line. I'll be replacing it today. I have star, and I have a motive bleeder coming in the mail. What I need is brake bleeding instructions. Is it self explanatory in star or do I need to know what to do? Still pretty clueless using the star system.

Self explanatory. Step through the STAR Simulation program before you start the actual STAR diagnosis program and connect to the car.

Ok, ran the simulation. It says bleed pressure exceeds 100 bar! That's over 1400 psi. I don't think my clear hose pushed over the bleeder is going to cut it. It also says to connect a battery charger. SBC battery or main battery??? Could use some more advice here, I've got to get this done and get it outside to rinse the leaked brake fluid off of things.

Got it done with just the pressure bleeder. Pretty sure I got all the air out. It work perfect as far as I can tell, and the computer isn't complaining.

As I understand it, bleeding the brakes without using STAR will certainly get the lines clear but not all the systems. You've got to activate the solenoids to get fresh fluid everywhere. If your brake fluid is clean already, then no big deal. If you're flushing the brakes, ya gotta use the computer.

The SBC is a power-hungry b***h. It is fed by two fuses in the front pre-fuse box under the floorboard; fuse 72 (50 amps) and fuse 73 (40 amps).

You'll need a large battery charger connected to your main battery. :-)

Ok, thanks. My charger is only 10 amps, but the batteries are both new. What about the bleeder hose? Special tool, or can I get away with regular tubing? What do you use?
I think I'm going to let it ride until spring anyway, I've got more pressing projects.

We did it with a pressure bleeder and no SDS (battery disconnected)
system must be de-pressurized beforehand, this is the only major safety concern before cracking bleeders open.

Thanks, did that already. Works fine now. Got my star system doorstop/paper weight standing by. I'm guessing it will come in handy someday.
