2009 E350 trunk door wont fully open. Please help.
Issue: The trunk door won't fully open by inside switch or fob.
-The trunk door lock can be released by inside switch or fob. But,
-The trunk door wont't open fully and only opens a little. I tried to fully open it, but it's heavy, also need push hard to close it
-The plate lights can turn on.
-When the trunk door is opened fully, the big red trunk door button is not on
-When the trunk door is opened fully, the 2 white lights in trunk are not on
-When the trunk door is opened a little, I can see the big red trunk door button is on. the 2 white lights in trunk are on. Those lights will turn off if I open the trunk door further.
I welcome any and all help. Thank you.

Is the instrument cluster convenience setting set to open the trunk only halfway instead of all the way? Pretty handy if you've got a rocket box or canoe on a roof rack...

I'm going to guess it's the wires in the trunk. It's by the hinge, probably some wires got frayed. Also do you have a power trunk closer? I think you do when you say you have a button for it. If not the wires, then either the power trunk motor or the car needs to be normalized. Did you lose power to the battery recently? Try opening and closing all windows and sunroof and holding the buttons for a few seconds after they're opened and closed.

I have located and fixed problem 10 minutes ago.
the problem was the infamous brown wire in the trunk. It was frayed and almost broken! I reconnected it and everything works as expected now.

I had this same issue with my 07 E63, and after removing the interior panel, located the broken wire, and initiated a patch and repair. works like a champ now.

Actually its for any trunk. It essentially a bundle of wires, in the left trunk hinge that go to the rear trunk lid; i.e. third brake lights, license plate lights, where your tail lights or automatic trunk closure feature isn't working. As your car ages over the years, the bundle of wires from opening and closing the trunk, become brittle and are prone to chaffing or breakage. The repair is simple, as patching in a new wire to fix the breakage or chaffing.
