I am contemplating about doing this work myself.. yes.. ~$1000 for an oil cooler change is a good deal, but I do not trust Acura with a Mercedes. Also, I think they should fix it free of charge since it stated on the service log that the oil leak has been fixed prior to purchase. Can they really just say they fixed something when indeed they have not(for an as is vehicle)? I would have not bought the car if I knew the leak was not fixed.
I may have to talk to a lawyer... sigh
What do you guys think? Spend $1000 and hope they fix it or break something else and then going back and doing it myself? Or just doing it myself and saving about half the money? I do work full-time so I'll only be able to work on it a couple hours each night.

When you have time and other car >>. DIY, DIY.
This way you will know that everything is fixed right, you will not have trash left under the hood and no kinked hoses.

My wife and I would be car pooling.. which we have done for about 1 month prior to me purchasing this mess. I do not like car pooling.. but I may have to suck it up.

I thought it was a MB Dealer? What other lines do they carry. If they are principally Acura (Honda) and other Japanese cars, I would probably decline. (They are cheap because they don't know what they are getting into hours wise.).
If they carry and service another European brand, I would probably let then do it, after talking with them about your expectations.

The dealer I bought the car from is sending me picture updates while they are doing the oil cooler job and I am pretty amazed by their progress. It took them 5 hours to get to the oil cooler while cleaning all the necessary parts. Its crazy how much sludge build up there is in the butterfly valves. I'm guessing that's common for diesel engines?

Update:
It's still in the shop. Looks like a motor went out so they are going back and replacing that as well since the vehicle started throwing codes after the oil cooler gasket change.
I cant wait to have it back.. I miss my e320.

I know exactly how this feels too... I tend to have a lot of faith in "older" cars and don't hesitate to throw money at them, often not knowing when enough is enough...
GOOD LUCK!

Diesel MBs are almost as much of an enthusiast model as AMGs are, so I leave mine on to advertise. MB Gearheads (like me) absolutely love people that continue to keep MB diesel alive, so having those bluetec badges are endearing.

Agree 100% with S70Houston. I debadged my car as well.
Looks so much cleaner with out the letters and crap. Always keep the star though. If I had an AMG I'd debadge that as well. I debadged my STi and anything else that doesn't have actual pins in the metal... IE: If it's held on by double sided tape it's coming off.

It is taking a long time, but in the meanwhile I am driving a brand new loaner so isn't not bad. It appears they are doing a good job on trying to get everything working properly.. I just miss my baby. I can't believe the car is so sensitive that after replacing a few gaskets a few hard to fix lights come on.
Sounds like I'll be driving a brand new 2007 when I get her back.

Just picker her up and went on a long drive... I'm glad I have it back!
Apparently the culprit were the flaps in the motor.. if they aren't set to a certain position when installing them they will not work properly. MB positioned them correctly and put everything back together and no lights and everything appears to be running great!
When I got her the avg mpg were 19.5... I got her back up to 26 mpg for now. I will try and get her back to 34 mpg.
The only thing I had to do was reset the sunroof. When I tried to open it it would only open an inch at a time.. but after I reset it it works flawlessly again.
Happy driving
