07 E550 grinding clunking noise in engine compartment

Is anyone familiar with this noise? https://vid.me/Z7aZ Without the belt, noise is completely gone. https://vid.me/e3qr I dont have a mechanics stethoscope... Just wanted to know if someone had the same issue.

It was the alternator. Mechanics thought it was the engine when they heard me pulling up. I initially checked if it was the engine by taking off the belt and starting the car. Part and labor was $600 at a reputable independent shop.
