Any advice on parting out a 2006 E350?

I have a 2006 W211/E350 Base Sedan with about 160K miles. It is in great shape in many ways, but resale value is not so hot. And now, the SBC brake pump issue has cropped up, meaning that I would have to repair it or my trade/resale value is severely impacted.

Rather than putting more money into the car, I'm wondering if parting it out would give me the best return at this point. I do not have the capabilities or resources to dismantle it myself, so I'd have to get help.

Is this a foolish notion? Does anyone have advice/tips? Thanks!

Doesn't really make much sense unless you know how to do it and have a place to store the parts. That's how junkyards make their money. The 2006 probably aren't worth much because of the known balance shaft problems and of course 160k is up there in miles. I think the reman SBC pump is about $800, haven't checked it lately, it might have come down, but I doubt it as it's an MB part and no real aftermarket option for it. So probably at least 1k+ to do it even at an indy. Dealers typically quote 2k plus.

On the SBC: In my particular case it looks to only need the reservoir, which is not as bad as replacing the whole pump. So, $500-ish using a new Bosch reservoir and an independent garage.

Can you tell me more about the balance shaft problems? What is this issue, and do you know whether MB has done any official corrections? Thanks!

UPDATE: Cetialphas, please hold on proving additional information, I was able to find information with a Google search. I should have started there. Thanks for your help.

You answered your own question there. Parting out a car will take a lot of time and space.

I've parted motorcycles before and my 2 car garage would be full of parts laying around for months. There's a lot of money to be made with small stuff, but it's very time intensive listing and shipping everything.
